Is he actually any good though? Ain't we just getting another Avb type here if it's true?

AVB type? More Christian Gross. Hope he brings his travelcard.

Bit of an underwhelming manager in my opinion

posted on 17/12/13

i wouldnt say underwhelming at all.

this is a basel team that helped knock utd out of Europe and beat chelsea, theyre no mugs.

This really is another Gross, surely. Which, ironically, would contribute to nearly a gross of terrible managers since the 1990's ...

Other than the fact Basel are a massive pain in the Europa league I know nothing about him tbh.

Some twitter people are reporting a 'double swoop' for him and Salah...

We have enough wingers surely?

I don't know much about the manager, but this is the man who knocked us out the Europa last season, beat Man U in the CL the season before that and beat Chelsea this season.

He has certainly helped Basle become a v good team in Europe, plus if he came we would probs get Salah who tore us and Chelsea a new one.

you're never gonna get a Mourinho, Guardiola or Klopp.
what you might find though is a top up and coming manager.

I think sala is a brilliant player but wingers is 1 position we don't bloody need

Do we have to keep going for untested foreign managers? It hardly ever works. Have a day off Levy for god's sake!

who do you think you should be going for then?
sorry mate, and i hate to burst your bubble but your not a big enough club to attract the top managers.

who in the PL do you think you could attract who could do a good enough job?

posted on 17/12/13

plus any top manager wouldnt touch Levy with a bargepole

Another gamble...

But he gets Basel playing some top football. Very much our style.

I think Lazio might be interested in him and I reckon he'll go there.
He might simply be using us as an opportunity to pressure Lazio into making their move. Kind of how Redknapp expressed an interest in the Ukraine position and then very shortly after was made manager of QPR

Sell Lamela?

Salah for Chadli

I'm not sure I would want this. Didn't avb play exciting football in Portugal? He came to the premier league and played football that could send a glass eye to sleep.

The only jobs bigger than the Spurs job in England are

Man U
Liverpool
Arsenal
Man City

Other than those teams the Spurs job is a more glamorous role than any other team in England, just my opinion of course

This, if true, smacks of the Ramos appointment when Levy looked at Sevilla with envy at the time.

Yes Basel looked excellent against us and beat Chelsea, but...is that enough to warrant this job?

Neil Lennon's beat the best...Ach but he's British managing a mickey mouse club...If only he could step up to Switzerlands level..

Foreign managers rool OK.

I'm not saying it has to be a top manager. Just someone that knows the league and the traditions of the club. I've been touting Hoddle for the job. He's hardly in the Guardiola / Klopp category but he might do something with us. I'm just sick of the the job going to foreigners all the time. We've had one decent manager over the last 20 years, Harry Redknapp, who was English. Give someone else a chance that's all I'm saying.

If I remember rightly, this guy doesn't even have the necessary coaching badges to officially be head coach. One of their other coaches is named as their head coach and he has some other spurious title, even though he is actually the man in charge and spends their matches in the technical area.
