We really failed to take advantage of Otamendi today.

He was hopeless in the first 30 mins.

People can and will point to the defence as usual, but if the attacking players do their jobs properly we could easy be a couple up in the first half hour.

Scoring when you are on top is vital in football. It's not usually something we have a problem with but we did today.

Sevilla is a more important game at this point. We need to win obviously and early qualification would be a total blessing.

Win the first three group games, home, away, home and you're guaranteed at least 2nd place while avoiding the nervous sweat of the last couple of games.

Worst thing about that result was that Mane was my Fantasy football captain

Bloody game sent me nuts. After the red card the beers were going down at one a minute. Drank 23 bottles, fell asleep about 8 and woke up at 3am. Looking back on this thread I was so drunk I was inviting Manfrom on dates. I think he has now left the site

Just woke up. Got a monster hangover fueled by some dodgy Tesco irish whiskey. Missed the game as I wax inhaling as much bacon, bread and Guinness as I could.

Rinse.

Repeat

Yeah it's supposed to rain non stop for a week now. I doubt you'll have to worry about what you're wearing as all the courses will not be playable.

She makes me go to St George's market as they sell quince. I'd never even heard of it. So I tried one. It's basically like eating a lemon with a slight taste of apple.

The wife tried dulce.

the fool.

Both her and her daughter are in awe of how you can drive down the road and just look at cows in fields.

Also both are fascinated by how many people wear track suits

You look at the games we've played.

Watford away - should have won.

Palace home - banana skin in past seasons

Arsenal home - great win.

City away - we were ok till the sending off even though we'd conceded one.

Lads need to bounce back and prove something Wednesday night.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Knowing us we could easily have had 1/2 points from these first four games. Seven is a very good return. Must beat Burnley as I fear our away record might not be up to scratch this year, and we've got four on the trot after this week.

The team and the manager will need to forget yesterday's mauling as quickly as possible. Easier said than done, but the fact is the sending off changed the game. We were undeservedly a goal down and their second killed it.

At first I was angry that Mane was sent off, but after reviewing the replay's it was totally deserved. He was unlucky, but by the laws of the game he had to go. Like Ederson, he will just have to take it on the chin

The worrying thing for me was the way we capitulated defensively. The players looked clueless as to how to shut up shop after Mane went off. We desperately needed a strong and fast CB who could give us a bit more stability and leadership back there. Missing out of VVD (our own fault), could prove costly this season.

However, I still feel optimistic for the remainder of the season. We are still a very good team, with a deeper squad than we've had for many a season.

Yesterday's debacle needs to be written off as one of those days. However, I still think we are a CB and a keeper away from where I would like.

Not buying a centre back at all will cost us any chance of a title challenge this season, that's for certain.

I can understand waiting for VVD but it's unlikely he will available until next summer earliest. We needed somebody new for this season.

Klavan certainly isn't good enough. What on earth he was doing for the first goal yesterday I don't have a clue.

We will be extremely dependent on Lovren and Matip to play a lot of games and will need Gomez to step up majorly if either are injured.

posted on 10/9/17

The thing about Gomez is he will make mistakes for sure, however so do Matip, lovren and klavan. But the advantage Gomez has is he's the quickest of the lot so he has pace to recover.

I really don't see an issue with giving him some games there.

We aren't going to play City away every week.

Reminder that Klavan played home and away against them last season and we conceded 1 goal.

It's not some telling barometer of what will happen for the rest of the season.

posted on 10/9/17

The telling barometer is the amount of goals we conceed in general.

I appreciate we play an attacking system but there is definitely an argument to say that some of our defenders and goalkeepers individually and collectively aren't what we need if we want to win the big trophies.
