I've bought the complete set recently, currently about half way through season 2, season 1 was great but this season isn't as good to be honest! I'll have to trudge through 2 and hope the series picks up again

It's brilliant.

Omar Little has got to be the best TV character of all time.

Best TV show ever made

I did my Thesis in college on the Wire.

Season 2 is slow to start and it's a big change to season 1 but it finished really strong and season 3 and 4 are the best seasons in it IMO, defo stick with it you won't be dissapointed.

I thought season 2 was pretty boring. Most of it was pretty pointless in relation to the rest of the show.

It does pick up again from season 3 though.

This article come up every few months.

The Wire is brilliant but do we need an article about it every few months on a football site?

Season 2 is not as great agreed but it isn't that bad. The rest though esp Sn3 and Sn4 are just insanely great!!

Well, I haven't seen any other article of it before but anyway sorry if I have ruined your day with this atrocity of an article.

I really liked season 2, all seasons to it are integral. Bits in five I didn't like, but I won't say as some people are still watching it.

It's jaw dropping!

Watched it twice through. It really does ruin other shows for you.

Just to add, if you like the tv show then read Homicide: A year on the killing streets (and watch a couple of episodes of it) and the Corner, they are the books by David Simon. Utterly brilliant.

Just go to New Orleans and feel like you're in "the Wire" for real life.

I disagree that it was pointless. Simons has stated that he wanted to highlight a different aspect of Baltimore on every season and I guess that one had to do with the difficulty it is for some to keep their jobs with terrible bureaucracy and empty promises from the politicians. Also, we got to meet "the Greeks" who were a main player in the "co-op" drug business in the following seasons.

Far from it. Finish the series and watch S2 again. You'll come to appreciate it a lot more.

There were important bits, no doubt. The introduction of Brother Muzone is obviously crucial to the rest of the show.

I just didn't really find the Sabotka (sp.) family and co. that interesting if I'm honest.

Brother Mouzone, I felt, didn't fit in with the overall realism of the show. He felt like a cartoonish, over the top character who would've fit in well in a different, pulp-like show i.e Breaking Bad.

The Sobotkas for sure! But the lengths Frank Sobotka had to go to try and save and create jobs for his fellow workers in the port is very consistent with one of the main themes of the show.

He really would have fit into Breaking Bad wouldn't he? Not saying that is a bad thing though.

I stuck with it up 'til Season 3 just to confirm it really was a bag of shíte.

Season 2 is just a departure to what is familiar in season 1, which makes it naturally feel a little off at first, however some of the themes/characters visited are fairly significant in terms of the bigger picture.

For me it's one of the best shows I've seen. The Hamsterdam series slightly annoyed me, due to the plausibility factor, but only in the context of how completely absorbing and beliveable the rest of the show is.

The only down side it is that it basically ruins most other TV, showing it up as being significantly poorer quality. Try watching a CSI: Miami straight after finishing the Wire.

I know what you mean. I've found Homeland has completely ruined 24 for me .
