Tony Jaa was my favourite when i really got into martial arts films back in my teens

But looking back now Jackie Chan is the goat really its hard to argue otherwise

Jaa was phenomenal for a short period. Shame what happened to him.

Like Jackie he got powerful but unlike Jackie he wasn't able to be successful

Yeah no one deserves to have Ong Bak 3 on their record like that

A lot of this was due to him getting creative control.

What even was that??

I read somewhere it was him who had the bulk of the creative control.

Thought so. That's when I gave up on him.

I'm a nutshell he couldn't cope with the control etc

Started looking a bit of a mess too

Thats all I will watch of his.

I'll watch all of the shltty Sonny Chiba grindhouse kung fu happily.

I think some of the problem with martial artists is breaking into the main stream. Too much health and safety too.

I like Ong Bak 2 for the set piece fights

But he couldn't even get that right in 3

I watched a Jackie Chan interview about how Hollywood makes the movies compared to Hong Kong. He was like "what do you mean cut" after each move

Everyone is so snobby and up their own ass that the great kung fu/grind house films can't be made anymore. Everyone is an ultra critic and will tear things apart at the moment of thought. Some silliness and just way out craziness is missed by me. And I don't mean like Jumanji silliness.

I also loved the gun fu movies like A Better Tomorrow, The Killer, Hardboiled etc.
And of course God of Gamblers

I was reading that the problem has become money made rather than good movie made.

Basically if you're a fan of westerns you're out of luck because opening day in China will be krap as they want cgi etc so studios simply won't do them.

I think that was the appeal with Jackie. There is something in there that will be good.

Action comedy etc

What gets largely ignored is that his formula is pretty much likes of buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd etc
