"Perez - won't be signed
Mustafi - won't be signed"

Imagine. To be fair I suspect they are both already done, Arsenal are just taking their usual two days to get the Twitter account prepared, decide which hashtag to use and get some artwork up. Fackin modern football.

If we sign Mustafi and Perez I expect some outgoings as Arsenal always try and balance the books

The main problem is that you are still signing players who "may" work out or who "may" develop into top players.

Perez is an interesting one as Barça looked at him as a back-up player but were not totally convinced. He has a good scoring record in Spain but that does not always ... nor usually translate in the premier league. I have my doubts as to whether he will score you 15-20 goals but his style of play, pushing on the last man, is certainly something that Arsenal try a lot with Walcott, so he could be a good option.

You are destroying your own love for the game week with your poor predictions and reliance on social media and popular media to form your opinions. Imagine ranting about transfers when it turns out we will be I'm the top three spenders of the summer

It's too late though, we've dropped 5 points in the first 2 games! All major signings should have happened as a early as Xhaka (who wasn't an urgent requirement) yet it appears as if they had almost no idea who to go after- as I fail to believe Wenger can't see we need a new striker desperately.

Xhaka - flop
Asano - flop
Holding - too early to say but looks like he will be a success
Perez - flop
Mustafi - wont live up to price tag

Wenger should go back to signing unknowns from France and Africa. He has no idea how to spend money. He's blown £100M without even improving our squad

It's amusing how people are moaning that we didn't even need Xhaka because we're overstocked in midfield. I'm sure they are the same people moaning that Wenger relies too much on "crocks" like Wilshere and Ramsey, or players that aren't good enough like Coquelin or Elneny.

For about 10 years Arsenal fans have been crying out for a high quality DM who can also pass and has some aggression and fight about him. Also some squad depth so that we aren't relying on the likes of Flamini in midfield or, at one point last season, Calum Chambers. They have literally been given exactly what they've been asking for for years and then they moan about it.

Whether Xhaka turns out to be great for us is by the by. We DID need a player like him. And we could have signed him and still had plenty of budget to go and spend big on a striker, but 2 injuries to first choice centre-backs looks to have screwed that up and meant we had to set aside what looks like a huge chunk for a CB.

I guess that's the risk of spending big early in the transfer window (another thing our most vocal Internet supporters are very keen that we do).

Our snail-paced negotiating and general tight-fistedness has hamstrung us as usual, but I do believe there was at least some semblance of a strategy this year. I just find it amusing how some people can twist anything into a negative against the manager and the club.

Who thinks Coquelin is not good enough? You do seem to like making things up to support an argument.

In fact if anything, Arsenal fans probably overrate Coquelin

I've seen plenty of people here who think he isn't good enough.

And he probably isn't tbh. Certainly not good enough that he can't be improved upon.

Every single position in our XI can be improved upon. It's about which needs it most. It certainly wasn't CM, where we now have 6 pretty good to excellent players competing for 2 positions.

Whereas on the wings we have what? Sanchez and assorted dross.

Really don't get why we spent 35m on Xhaka. I'd say CM was the last position we probably needed to improve.

I agree. A central midfielder was the last of our worries. However, I did somewhat understand it given players who can;t be trusted, a need to seriously improve on distribution and control in that position (I think Cazorla is on the way out, Wilshere is never fit and the rest of our midfielders are tidy without actually being able to assert control of that middle third). We really didn't have a player like Xhaka, so he's a signing I really have no problem with - just as an aside and to be really hypothetical for a moment, imagine a midfield pivot of him and a fit Diaby (i.e. the one that played in that win at Anfield 6 years ago). It would probably the most balanced in the league.

We really do and did need a huge improvement in the wide positions. I know we can;t compete with Utd for wages, but surely we could have pushed for Mkhitaryan at the price he was snapped up for or really gone for Mahrez - we're in desperate need of creativity ferom the wings and, like when Hleb was with us, a wide man able to take playmaking duties away from Ozil in times of need. As usual, however, we're still short.

Xhaka - lot of money that could have been better spent elsewhere
Asano - to make money in Japan. Unlikely to make first team
Holding - Good value for money
Perez - Doesnt look an improvement on what we have. Should have thrown money at this position instead of Xhaka and maybe Mustafi
Mustafi - Should be a good signing but with Kos, Per, Gabby, Holding, Chamber, Debuchy, Monreal and now Coq who can play CB a luxury signing when money could have been better spent on a striker.

So although the players coming in may be good players for us the main issue to be addressed has been avoided again. Giroud, Akpom, Walcott and when hes back Welbeck are all not good enough for a title challenging team and I dont expect Perez to be with his career history.

I'm not saying he was a bad signing at all, Herbie, in fact I think he'll be very good by what I've seen from him

Just seems a bizarre position to spend big money on is all. If Sanchez gets injured, we are basically facked for wide players. Left with Walcott, Ox and Iwobi, and then a couple of players who "can play there" in the same way Mertesacker could probably play there.

We do still look like lacking goals. Especially if last years tallies are anything to go by.
