how long do you have to live in the Basque Country to be eligible to play for Athletic Club?

Do they have a timer on it...like 10 years you're Basque, 8 you're not
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's the number of years spent in the Basque grassroots football system - or, of course, Basque heritage.

Not sure about the exact number of years they require, but I think maybe 4 or 5 years might be enough.

Just had a quick check, and apparently the exact terms aren't included in the club's charter (estatutos), which allows for a certain degree of flexibility.

Generally speaking, as they seem to be applying the rules at present, any player who's played in the grassroots (cantera) system of any of the provinces they consider Euskal Herria, which also includes Navarra and the French Basque regions, would be eligible to play for them.

Dno why really but the fact that it includes the French Basque region is pretty cool

They must ensure they don't put all their Basques in one exit.

Replacing it with a Real Sociedad track?

He’ll pay a fine and nothing will happen. Standard practice in Spain.

If we were Barça we'd be talking about deep-state conspiracies to bring us down now that we're doing well.

We're not, so let justice take its course.

It would be hilarious, though, if Carlo got time in the nick when looking at the amount involved, he must be about 2,000th on the list.

A few years ago, the Botín family (the owners of Santander) were embroiled in a tax fraud case after a Swiss whistleblower turned over a list of names holding undeclared accounts to the Spanish authorities.

The issue was swept under the rug after a pledge to declare the monies and a fine of €200M.

The mind boggles to think of the figures involved when the fine alone amounted to €200M. And that pertained to accounts held in one single bank!

Ah, and before I forget, not that long ago Jaime Botín, one of the Botín siblings, got caught by the Italian coastguard/customs trying to smuggle a Picasso estimated to be worth more than €25M which was classed as national heritage and barred from leaving Spain.

The painting was found on board his little sailing boat - pictured here: https://uniservice98.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/El-yate-Adix-de-Jaime-Botin.jpg - perfectly stored in a wooden transport crate.

He paid another fine for that, €91.7M, but got off serving the 3-year prison sentence due to an undisclosed 'incurable disease'. Asthma? Greed? Anyone's guess, but whatever his condition, he's still alive and nicking, er, kicking.

By the way, in one of the most spectacularly appropriate cases of nominative determinism, Botín in Spanish means 'booty' or 'loot'.

Doubt it, I don’t remember him playing for Liverpool.

i think we could do with playing with Joselu a bit more

at least he occupies the centre of the box and gives central defenders something to worry about

too many times in recent weeks there is nobody in that zone when we attack

got some dodgy fack defenders who are liable to make a major fack up at any given:

Carvajal
Nacho
