I’ve always thought there is a lot of commonality in footballing set pieces and basketball. I always thought football was weirdly behind the curve regarding that, only really in the last 5 years have the bigger teams really doubled down on set piece coaches etc.

It’s been a baffling oversight

Apparently danish football has gone too much that way where teams have been realising the full quality of set pieces and like 25% of every teams goals is through that. As a result the product is way worse from a viewing standpoint - but more efficient.

Arsenal are very much that way, I wonder what % of drawing game-states have been broken by a set piece goal

It certainly feels that way. Maybe their comebacks have stuck with me more because each time it's seemed like their unbeaten record was coming to an end.

Football has improved in terms of quality but as a spectacle imo is worse.
Too much choreographed football & tactical straight jackets placed on players

Yeah I do actually agree with this. Bring back strike partnerships and lazy number 10s that aren’t judged on their pressing numbers.
