Everton vs Chelsea

The home team settled into the game much quicker than their opponents, with the hard working wide men pulling Chelsea's full backs away from the back line and allowing Lacazette more breathing space. Chelsea's pressing in the middle overwhelmed Everton's but left gaps for long balls to undo them and that happened early on when a long ball from the back was expertly knocked on by Lacazette into the path of Son who, getting goal-side of Vrsaljko, slotted beyond the onrushing Oblak.

Going down seemed to galvanise the Chelsea team, and they started getting their foot on the ball more often, trying to create holes in the Everton defence. Their main potential source came in the contest between Mbappe and Cucurella - with the French winger's dribbling skills in full force. And on such occasion, he managed to drive to the byline ahead of the defender and fired a low ball across the 6 yard box, where it was met by the foot of Belotti as he managed to get in between the centre backs.

Late on, substitutions impacted the styles of both teams, with both going more attacking and Neymar being given more of a free reign up top. He was up to his usual antics here after feigning contact to the head after losing out on a high ball. Fooled, the referee awarded a free kick in a dangerous position, which Neymar promptly dispatched, grogginess apparently dealt with, in the dying embers of the game.

Score:
Everton 1 - 2 Chelsea
Everton goalscorer(s): Son (Lacazette) 12'
Chelsea goalscorer(s): Belotti (Mbappe) 58, Neymar (FK) 89
