Live Boxing Fight Thread!!!!

I know it’s subjective and I do have sympathy for judges but, to quote Roy Keane, THAT’S YOUR JOB!

If they don’t have the confidence / technical understanding to do the job, don’t do it.

I do get really upset with fighting decisions - more so than footy - because people literally put their lives on the line. These guys that aren’t huge names (Catterrall being one of them) don’t make huge money and, after paying their trainers, managers, the promoter’s cut, etc. they don’t come away with crazy money.

Tonight could and should have changed the kid’s life (I say “that kid”, he’s my age 😂😂)

It’s pretty obvious from this and your posts on the live footie thread that you just like to go against the grain. You’ve just given one example there, I could show you hundreds that go against it.

You like to go against the obvious answer. No point denying it, you’ve done it twice today.

The promoter of tonight’s event, Ben Shalom, has basically just said live on Sky that is was a fix (or gross negligence) and their will be an inquest.

If that isn’t indicative of how wide it was, I don’t know what is. People don’t make those claims when it’s down to a round or two. They just say it was unlucky or could’ve gone either way.

Yeah, fair play to him for that. He was furious and at least Sky let everyone have their say.

I said I would have given Catteral the win, how does that go against it?

I seemed to think it was closer for Taylor than others. An opinion shared by Andre Ward who had him winning it, which I disagreed with.

At the end of the day, it's subjective. Boxing isn't like football where there is a clear indication of who wins the match, by virtue of who scores more goals. You have judges marking it based on performance and people will like certain aspects of a performance compared to others, whether it be who is dictating the fight, who is landing more punches etc.

Dictating or not, Taylor landed less than half the punches Catteral did

posted on 26/2/22

Spurtle, I’m not denying you your right to an opinion, nor would I have any authority to.

But, go take a look at the stats for the fight. Catterall literally landed double, if I remember correctly (160-odd to 80-odd)

Is it really that subjective though? There must be pretty clear scoring guidelines for professional judges to follow, and at the biggest stretches of the imagination you might, just might be able to make a very weak case to give it 13-12, but how on earth could one of them give it 14-11? That’s just too much.

I don't doubt that he landed more shots. That's how I saw it. As I say I stopped scoring it early on when I had Catteral clearly in the lead. But I guess I gave Taylor a number of the closer later rounds. I definitely didn't have him winning it.

The 14-11 was a joke but I wasn't exactly surprised it went to a split decision.

thought he was speaking crap between every round. fury was right to ditch him

I had not seen much of Taylor prior to this fight but based on that performance was wondering what all the hype was about. It was a terrible performance, but not sure how much is down to Boxercise Ben.

Just listening briefly to Talksport as well as Ben Shalom's comments after the fight there will need to be an inquiry into this decision, ideally with the two judges who gave it to Taylor needing to be held accountable and explain exactly how they reached that decision to a panel.

Just seen the stats…

Wtf

posted on 27/2/22

What a joke of a decision. I never seen th3se two fight before and I jad Catterall as the winner with ease

Nit sure what was more embarrassing, the one judge who scored it 14-11 or Taylor claiming he won thay 100 percent

Just watched the fight, what a joke result.

It wasn’t even close
