Kaka was on a completely different planet when he was at Milan.

You needed to commit about 5 different players just to handle him.

I've always enjoyed watching players who thanks to supreme technique and understanding of space seem to have so much time on the ball (but don't slow the game down).

Redondo
Xavi
Riquelme
Scholes in 2006-7
Modric

Dunno whether it's my age but Michael Laudrup was amazing to watch and surprised he's not been mentioned more.

It's definitely your age.

-Ronaldinho, most skilful player i've ever seen
-Redondo, pure class, henning berg still has nightmares
-vidic, gave a warm fuzzy feeling when he was in the line up, knew we would be hard to score against
=saha, partly because of him never playing 15-20 games at a time but always looked forward to when he was in the line up
- o shea, this one was more a running joke with mates that because he literally could play in every position imaginable that we christened him the best fb, cb, gk, cm, winger, striker of all time

Redondo is a great shout.

Why dont Argentina produce cms? 9s and 10s all day long though.

Veron until he went to Utd.

Boban and Dejan Savićević in the 90s for Milan

Platini was something else although watching him was more limited to international comps and the odd European game highlights as tv coverage was mostly domestic back then

I remember as a child, I use to watch Football Italia.

Use to think Roberto Baggio was the greatest player of all time - Or maybe because I use to get to shout Goalazio! -

I'll list non-United ones here to be fair.

Dejan Savicevic fro Red Star and Milan
Papin for France and Marseille.
Waddle - great player to watch
John Barnes - as much as I dislike Liverpool Barnes was a joy to watch on song. He's also very good IMO when talking about racial issues.
Laudrup (both of them) were quality
Hugo Sanchez - I used to watch him in awe on the Welsh football highlights show Sgorio. Acrobatic goals aplenty.

they did up to about a decade ago, then they all disappeared, even their cb's?

Mascherano, Someone, Cambiasso, Riquelme, Aimar were all decent.

There was Le Tissier, Okocha, Benito Carbone, Kinkladze and Ravinelli - all vintage Prem entertainers

Ronaldinho was surely the ultimate player to watch though. So many players are flicks and tricks in front of the defender but then basically kick and rush when it comes to actually going through them. Ronaldinho would dream ridiculous bits of skill that had genuine function, the best ever in that regard IMO

And Zanetti. I wouldnt really call Aimar and Riquelme cms though myself. Just seems so few compared to strikers for example. Brazil the same. Spain dont produce strikers. Just find it interesting I guess, like it's down to culture.

Redondo was a CM. Always thought Mascherano was an outstanding, intelligent midfield anchor. Simeone would maybe be rated higher in this country if he wasn't best known for getting Beckham sent off.

so up to about a decade ago then, I think its more in recent years they have not really produced those types of players you've listed there

I'll try listing ones that haven't been mentioned that I enjoyed watching
Javier Zenetti
Neved
Yasuhito Endo
Peter Schmeichel (he's a United player but I did enjoy watching keepers making great saves).
Oliver Khan (another great keeper back then).

Goalkeepers are under appreciated

Zola was unreal to watch.

Original Ronaldo too especially for Brazil

Tbf just in general. I mean we could all rattle of loads of names for Italy France and Spain over the last 30 years (I'm talking genuine quality), even England, but Brazil and Argentina not so much.

Same with Spain and strikers. Anyway, I digress.

Likewise

It is down to culture though isn't it. The flair of South Americans should be more associated to attackers than CMs.

Spain only now don't have a striker. Not too long ago they had the 2 best strikers on the planet.
Pep also tricked the whole country into thinking you could literally play with only midfielders.

England, while having technically sound players now, still lack that flair that's usually associated with South Americans.

Although you could say that for the whole game in general

Germany and Holland always seem to find the best balance with all of this.

He was Maradona-esque for Red Star against United in the 91 European Super Cup.
