I'd love to see Hameed getting back to what he was. Time will tell of course. I'd also like to see Jack Leach get back in.

Broad and Anderson are past their best. Sticking with them will cost them this series. Undoubtedly, legends and one of the best pair of fast bowlers ever but England need to adopt Aussie model of succession hierarchy

What is the model that the Aussies have, cos a lot of their bowlers have gone in to mid 30's and Siddle was called into the last Ashes tour party at 37. Their batsmen also go well into their mid 30's.
It is also far easier to bring new players in if there are younger ones knocking down the door. If Archer and Wood could stay fit then Anderson and Broad wouldn't have played as much... they haven't been able to, so what can you do.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Johnson, Mcgrath, Hayden and Langer all retired at their prime inspite of the fact Aus did not had adequate replacements.General rule is it takes atleast 2 years for players to perform to their potential at international level so unless young guns are not given adequate chance they will not shine at international level

They do not go for personal records- once their performance and body engine go down they retire

You just said they retired at their peak. Which one is it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mcgrath and Warne took more than 20 wickets in their last ashes and Mcgrath was most successful bowler in 2007 World Cup yet they did not prolonged their careers to capture 600 or 800 test wickets. They were in late 30's and opted to retire instead of been forced to retire at some point

This new 100 looks shocking. Half of my TV is filled with runs, balls, who's batting and bowling etc and the concept is dreadful. This will definitely fail.

Generally Australian players retire earlier than their counterparts and make way for their fellow youngsters exception Ponting. Clarke retired at 34 after been axed from captaincy, Steve Waugh and several others mentioned above retired when their recent performance would have earned them a place in Australian side . Compare this with Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman, Amla, Steyn , Vivian Richards and Brian Lara. All of them were forced to retire inspite of attaining legendary status.

Yep. Like personal choice like I said. No magical Australian contingency planning like you said originally.

Its Australian cricket culture. Ponting was exception

Stokes is out of the England squad and will be replaced by Craig Overton.

Overton is a lazy pick. I'm beginning to think silverwood has little idea. Why not replace like for like with an all-rounder? Livingstone or Gregory?

Overton isn't exactly an inspiring pick (he'll probably take loads of wickets now!).

All the best to Ben Stokes with his issues.
