Love the UK, I have so many memories of this great tournament, my first memory of the UK was the 87 final between Davis & White, Big Jimmy fan before Ronnie came along, gutted as usual Davis won 16-14...

I remember Doug Mountjoy beating 18 year old Hendry in the 88 final, fantastic final of 1990 when the changing of the guard final happened between Hendry & Davis, Davis 15-14 up, & in, in the 30th, somehow lost 16-15, the Davis era was at an end.. Of course Ronnie winning in 1993, 17 year old beating the main man Hendry...

My favourite moment though is for our Jimmy.... Gutted at losing the 1991 world & UK Finals to Parrott, he got revenge in the 1992 final for the biggest win of his career.... Could have been the world & UK champion that year, if that 10 frame surge from Hendry hadn't happened.. 😳

Loved all 7 for Ronnie of course, loved the best of 31 frame finals, & best of 17 matches, glad this year that the top 16 are seeded... Hoping for a great tournament & of course number 8 for the man in form... 👏👏

I've never really been a massive fan of the UK Championship to be honest. Don't get me wrong it is a big tournament but I've never really felt much affection towards it compared to the World Championship and The Masters for example. I also actually prefer the Tour Championship and Champion of champions as well.

As you can see, my best memories are 30+ years ago 😂, but they are great memories, it's triple crown so you have to be up for it.. It goes towards your standing in snooker...

I don't agree with the terminology triple crown. A player could win 11 UK Championships, 11 Masters, 1 world title. That would be 23 "triple crown" titles yet only 1 of them is a world title.
Would I consider that player to be the most successful player of all time or in the top 2 or 3? Nope

If you are winning 11 each at the UK & Masters & only 1 World title something isn't adding up, I like the 777 that Ronnie currently has, I'd like to see 8 of course, Ding has 3 UK titles & a Masters, ahead of Trump, but the W/C trumps over that any day... It's a modern sign of greatness, & only the best have more than 1 win in each... Robertson has 6, yet only 1 World title, that's disappointing... & he knows it.. Judd will reach double figures I'm sure, but I don't think Ronnie is finishing with 21 either...

UK Championships was really good until 1992 when there was a best of 31 final over 2 days. Davis beating Jimmy 16-14 in 1987 felt like a World Final.

Even until late 2000s at least rounds were all best of 17 even if the final was only best of 19. Once they started the best of 11 nonsense, the tournament lost its prestige.

I didn't mind the flat 128 draw where seed 1 plays 128, 2 plays 127 and so on, but not such a good idea for the UK and I also hate that the tournament was sandwiched between the NI and Scottish Open

I loved the 2001 championship where both Ronnie and MJW came back from 8-4 down and won 9-8 against Ebdon and Hendry respectively. Then had a really good semi, which Ronnie narrowly won. Then Ronnnie destroyed Doherty in the final.

Also as a Ronnie fan, in 2005 he lost to King with a towel on his head, 2006 was the walkout and he won in 2007 beating Selby 9-8 in the semis with a 147 in the final frame.

As for other players, I think Hendry making 7 centuries in 1994 Final vs Doherty was good

Was really happy to see Stevens win the 2003 Title as he deserved at least 1 big title.

Ding winning in 2005 was amazing, I think he played around 5 matches to qualify and then he won the whole thing.

I always think of the Triple Crown like this:

World Title = 3 points
UK Title = 2 points
Masters = 1 point

Welcome to the UK party just true 👏👏, we are similar aged & the UK used to have a huge presence on the snooker calendar... Now its got its home in York, & the top 16 are seeded it may get some prestige back.... I remember all those matches above, particularly the 147 for Ronnie against Selby in the 07 final 👏

* semi.... Why can't we edit yet? Ja..?

The tour championship top 8 only is very high on the list of majors now a days, as is the Champion of champions as Arsenal mentioned earlier...

I'm glad they have scrapped the flat 128 draw for this though. It makes the event a lot better.

Anyway since people are discussing best UK championship moments mine are:
2005 final: Good performance from young Ding Junhui
2007 semi final: Ronnie beating Selby in a decider making a maximum in the decider. This would be the start of the rivalry between both.
2009: Ding beating Higgins in the final.
2010 final: Mark Williams coming back into form and was 9-5 up against Higgins in the final. Higgins fought back very well to win 10-9.
2011: Judd Trump beating Allen in the final. He also beat Ronnie in an earlier round and Robbo in the semis.
2014 final: Ronnie beating Judd in a decider. Ronnie was 9-4 up and cruising but Judd reeled off frames to level it but Ronnie held his nerve in the decider.
Usually losing matches especially in finals hurt but this is one that never really hurt as much mainly because Judd was down and out and didn't exactly "bottle it"

We won't talk about the 2020 UK championship final

Your memories viva? Higgins 8-2 up in the semi against Ronnie in 09, Ronnie got back to 8-8, Higgins won the decider

2020! Judd blew that, Amazing match with Robbo...

I remember the match between Ronnie and Judd in the UK final 2014, this was only a few months after Ronnie lost to Selby in the World Final and blew a big lead. Was very relieved Ronnie won the final frame.

I think that was the tournament in which he was playing in his socks due to an injury.
