Big news from the Scottish League Cup as Dundee United qualify as the third (and final) best-placed 2nd-placed team.

Ayr United beat Buckie Thistle 3-2 but it wasn't enough. Had it finished 4-2 in Ayr's favour, they would have been equal with Dundee United on points. And goal difference, goals scored, away goals scored, games won and away games won.

It would have come down to the drawing of lots.

Glad we're through but a bit of me would like to see the total tinpotness of having to draw lots to see who progressed to the next round.

Ah wait no, never mind. I thought it was odd there was no head-to-head condition but that's what I get for trusting Wikipedia. The sixth (and final) tiebreak is indeed head-to-head and United would have still progressed.
I am sad now.

Dundee qualified from the league cup group stages as the best league cup group stage team in world football as they scored 18 goals in 4 games and conceded just 2. This means that Dundee will play one of the crap group winners or one of the garbage teams that only finished 2nd in their group.

Quite appropriate as the 5 teams that didn't play the groups were the ones that made it into Europe. So the team that finished 6th in the league would be the best team in the league cup groups, that team was Dundee. Very satisfying.

A bit annoying that we only scored 5 in the first half. Should put that right against United.

It seems on the ticket system you get randomly allocated seats when you buy them so you can't sit next to people you know? An interesting tactic in crowd psychology from United. A bit desperate though.
