By the way how utterly stupid is our board - we’ve made the sacking AFTER an international break 😂😂😂 could have had someone in place for the palace game

Yep. Totally bizarre timing. I can only think that the psychological effects of dropping into the bottom 3 (now 19th) meant Top and the board felt they had no choice but not doing it when we had an international break, and just ahead of two hugely important games, is very odd.

I have seen a suggestion that there was a clause in his contract that meant we could trigger a 'mutual agreement' parting without a payoff, if we were in the bottom 3 and no longer in any cup competitions. It would be the only reason that would make any sense.

Benitez until the end of the season, stay up and then a freshly sacked Potter on a long term deal would probably be the best play. He was my original first choice before he went to Chelsea and I had assumed that he was now out of our league, but he's also on the brink so wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility. Whether he would come here given the state of the club at a structural level remains to be seen but I imagine he would want to repair the damage to his career pretty quickly.

They probably believed the bs. Until one of them thought - hang on a minute, we're now 18th in the League, isn’t that one of the relegation spots? Oh dear, we'd better do something then?

They should have acted in the Autumn. There's quite a strong argument to say that today is not a sensible time to relieve Brendan of his duties!

Depressed in Nuneaton.

To believe that wouldn't you have to accept that our crafty DoF had got one over Brendan and his agents? Do you really think that much of Rudkin?

It's probably very unlikely. I very much doubt that such a clause exists, unless it was inserted as an after thought and then someone only just realised. Would make for an interesting plot twist if Rudkin/Top knew what they were doing and were playing the long game all along I sense that might be giving far too much credit though.

You should go for Benitez before West Ham get him

I don’t believe that’s the case - would be very surprised if Rodgers agreed to any contract where entering the bottom 3 would trigger termination with no payoff. In fact I’ve never heard of a clause like that

What is most likely is that the nature of the defeat (particularly the 1st half) and the fans turning on Rodgers in increasing numbers has forced Top into a reluctant and unplanned move to sack him. He is clearly not prepared with no one lined up which is ridiculous given the time he’s had. He’s waited until it can’t carry on any longer - with each game worse than the last and facing a mutiny from the fans as well as the realisation that relegation is more than a possibility

That situation would be perfect. Just need to stay up first though don’t we!!!

Also he probably didn't want dissent at the match on Tuesday - Vichai's birthday
