This is a demolition job and a half. Fair play. I think this tournament is India's to lose just like the 2019 was England's to lose. If they don't being their best though then there are some very good teams who can beat them. A hosts vs defending champions final would be great but NZ, SA, Aus and Pakistan are more than capable of getting there as well.

True and many players from Eng, SA, NZ, Aus know Indian wickets very well these days as a result of IPL and the exposure they get. 50-50 is a different beast but having that familiarisation Def help...

Sri Lanka are 3rd tier now, with the likes of the Windies, Afghans and Ireland.

Didn't they finish below two of those in the Super League?

The top 6 (Pakistan, India, Aus, SA, England and NZ are top tier sides as I wouldn't be surprised by any of them losing to the other.

Sri Lanka are the best of the rest though and what I'd categorise as a second tier side but one who I would expect to do far better than this performance and result.

My only hope for the World Cup is that the toss does not dictate the game's outcome, as is quite often the case in the subcontinent.

The only time this has happened that I can re-call was the T20 WC in UAE in 2021.

That was a clown show and the coin flip literally decided every game.

Apart from that, tbh the coin flip doesn’t matter that much in limited overs games because the pitch doesn’t materially change in the course of one day. Tests are decided more by the flip.

Agreed, T20 World Cup in UAE was a farce. In the subcontinent day/night games can be affected sometimes becomes of dew in the evenings.
