Bruno isn’t a midfield player.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You're right, he's a CB now
Onana
NEW Rb--------NEW CB---------new CB--------Ait Nouri
-------------------- NEW CDM
-------------Fernandes-----Mainoo
Garnacho---------Højlund---------------New LW
In reality, I'll be content with a new CB, DM and LB. Question marks remain over Dalot, who does switch off in defensive areas. Fitness worries remain over Shaw and Licha, moreso Shaw to the extent I would be looking for his long term replacement and for me Ait Nouri of Wolves stands head and shoulders above all.
We need another CF and possibly another wide attacker.
We need probably two CM players (Eriksen & Amrabat will both likely leave and that really only leaves us with a kid in Mainoo, and Casemiro who isn't looking at his best and has now picked up injuries that he never previously did).
We also really need a top CB and another FB. Varane and Martinez are both quality, but Varane's injury issues have always been a concern and whilst I hope Martinez has just been unlucky with the broken foot and then the knee injury, there's no guarantees. Shaw has always had his injury issues and AWB's limitations with his passing and striking of the ball create a big weakness in build up play.
The other issue is that although Maguire, Evans etc are decent enough defenders, they don't particularly want to be high up the pitch and stepping into midfield to contest the ball. They're much more effective and comfortable defending deep. Stylistically, if we want to progress we need squad players whose profiles more closely resemble the starting players and will suit the playing style that the club want to develop moving forward.

He was awesome in the quarter back / CB role yesterday. Liverpool had no answer 😆
Onana
Dalot CB Martinez Shaw
Mainoo Casemiro
Greenwood Bruno Garnacho
Hojlund
Probably need
CB X 2
LB (Unless Malacia is trusted to be available)
CM
An alternative for Bruno
CF
Also OP, I think it's fair to say our squad needs more than just two new starting players.
I agree with need to upgrade CM and CB but if that's all we did to the first 11 next season then I don't think we'll see a massive improvement. Granted, a lot depends on certain players staying fit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Could maybe make a case to keep Varane if he agreed to reduce his terms.
Lindelof, Varane, Casemiro, Eriksen, Sancho, Greenwood, Martial
----------------------
I don't disagree with any of this really - would also include Wan Bissaka (and obviously Amrabat), but looking at the gaps it leaves in the squad, it will leave a hell of a lot of work to be done. I think:
RB
2 x CB
2 x CM
Right winger
Centre Forward
They don't all need to be top end signings - the CF needs to be a decent back up, and one of the CMs and CBs can probably be more of a young player with potential. But with those outgoings I really think that should be a minimum - it's obviously going to be really difficult to do though.
Everyone seems to be binning off nearly every experienced player we own.
We have to be very careful we don't end up like Chelsea. A team full of kids plus Thiago Silva. It's just a recipe for disaster in this unforgiving league.
Hard to make predictions on who goes and who comes. We don't even know who the manager will be or what competition we will be in. No CL football means a much smaller budget with FFP thrown in.
For me, what I would like and what will realistically happen are pretty far apart. I think they may look at the squad as being unlucky with injuries this season, and there won't be wholesale changes because we simply can't afford to do that. I also believe that a lot of this current squad should be capable of being a lot better than what we are showing as a team.
I'm not convinced by Onana, but he's done enough for him not be a priority to change.
I can see us hoping to bring in in one new CB and getting rid of Lindelof. I would be content with Martinez and a new CB with Varane, Maguire and Evans as back up. There could be no changes in our FBs - once again, they may not view that as a priority and have been unlucky with injury.
We desparately need a younger version of Casemiro. Mainoo showed what a great attacking threat he can be, McT is good as a squad player and we need to see an injury-free season from Mount to see what he can do. Bruno gets pelters on here, but I am happy enough with him.
I have gone on about this all season, but I really want our front 3 of Rashford, Garnacho and Hojlund to show how good they can be - it really could be a front 3 to produce the goods next season. Antony is not great, but can't see him leaving, Amad has to be given and hopefully take his opportunities, and we need to bring in another forward who can preferably cover centrally and out wide.
So for me, a CB, DMF and FW are the 3 main priorities - if we can bring in some true quality, we should be able to make decent step forward next season.
Whether that is with or without ETH is another thing..............
Wan Bissaka, Verane, Martial, Maguire and I believe Lindelof are all due to end their contracts this or next summer. So I would expect these all leave, although I can imagine Maguire wanting to see his deal out.
Casemiro will likely leave due to wages.
I'm unsure what budget this leaves us with, but we need a young LB to supplement Shaw, a RB if AWB leaves, a CB, a DM (probably 2 really) and ideally another option up front and on the wing. So at least 6 players, which is probably unrealistic.
We need a cf, rw, lb, rb, 2 cbs, 2 dms and a cm.

if he's happy to be our back up then no issue for me as we have bigger problems to solve. I think he will leave though personally as Dalot is definitely the preferred RB now and he will want to play every week.
If we can get 20-25m I'd sell.
Don't get the hatred for AWB.
Injuries aside he is a good player. In the cup game he and Onana are the most comfortable under the press at the back.
It was obvious he was given Slash as his duty and he marked him out the game. The lead up to the goal was huge space and 2 players he had to mark. Basically Rashy never helps the fullback.
Right back is a massive problem. Neither are good enough.

I agree with most points but Bruno I think needs to massively improve or he needs to go. Same with Marcus
They are senior players and need to deliver consistently over a season.
I think we need to strengthen both RB, LB and CB. We have a RB in the U-18s that looks decent, Habeeb who can be an under study to AWB and Dalot.
I think we need someone like a young Vidal in midfield as everyone just saunters through our midfield. Maybe 2 of them.
We also need a back up to Hojlund. Probably 4-5 players to go into the first team. They also need to be physical and hopefully be s.
There are too many nice people in our team and we are not physically imposing in midfield or defence.
