Not a fan of diving, but I get folk being cute. Grabbing your face etc should probably be treated harsher due to the concerns around head knocks and these days.
Today was the only match I've watched this season, so I've no idea how common it is.

Football fans are hypocrites by nature. I'm not a fan of some of the dramatics in rolling around but will never criticise a player for going down with contact and giving the ref a decision to make. Reality is if they don't go down they don't get a decision so it works both ways.
