Not overly, if they dont get them they can then target another top manager who in turn doesnt need to follow after Klopp which wont be easy at all.

It's impossible to tell whether it will go well or not. It seems Slot has a similar philosophy to Klopp so maybe a smoother transition than someone else who would make massive changes.

As you lot found, it is incredibly difficult to replace such a top manager with another top manager.

Moyes was always the scapegoat, but the appointments following that have not worked out well really. Even appointing big names didn't work.

We are in the same position now. Whoever takes the job will most likely only be in it for 12-18 months. It is the guy after that that we need to get right.

As such, I think we should give O'Neil a go. It would either be a masterstroke or the fall guy needed. I think he has a big future in the game and certainly will manage England one day. Was Alonso good enough when he took over Leverkusen?

There's a real shortage of top quality coaches in the game atm.

Pep, Klopp, Ancelotti, Simeone and maybe Flick are the only ones who you would look at say, they're a safe bet for success.

The others have either been successful at clubs that dominate their respective domestic leagues anyway and they have somewhat failed on the European stage....or they are just up-and-coming managers and haven't really been tested at the highest level.

Alonso, Amorim, Inzaghi & Slot have at least won titles in their league with teams that weren't necessarily the dominant team. Considering what he took over from and the current situation at Barca, I'd like to include Xavi there...but then we know how the Barca ethos can aid in things over there

One thing with Man Utd is that its not as if you have players at their absolute peak which you need to take advantage of immediately or lose that chance. YOu need a rebuild and have time on your hands to do so and the current better players will be even better and the ones you want gone will be gone.

If i were United, this is the sort of timeframe I would be targetting, with a new man starting asap, building something to begin to peak in 2 or 3 years time, built around the likes of Mainoo & Hojlund & Garnacho and the rest of them can feck off.

You sort of want to do what Chelsea have done but in a more gradual and structured way

Agree with this, but it's not all about the manager. We haven't ever had the right structure in place to compete. Hence why Jim has been ringing the changes right from the off, such as bringing in the City CEO, getting Ashworth from Newcastle etc... He knows getting the structure right is fundamental to success further down line.

England have never produced a winning manager for the league of their own country (the PL).

And their greatest ever player has never won a trophy.

Quite odd.

Imagine a Spanish manager having never won La Liga, as well as Ramos or Xavi/Iniesta never winning a trophy in their career.
