The clubs that have pushed the boundaries of PSR will attempt to do this until they've managed to offload deadwood on big wages, but it won't be a long term thing. Clubs have already moved towards signing players on free transfers.

Tbh, as much as the Chelsea contract strategy seems to be counter intuitive, I think it is necessary to understand in the clubs context.?
We do not know what that is, also I really would'nt be surprised that within each contract there are caveats / clauses which provide the club with angles and options to achieve their aims.
These guys may not seem to be experienced enough to steer a club like Chelsea to an elite footballing status, but I think they will know enough to keep their investment a float and not be to bothered about who the trample on along the way.

Wishful thinking.
You really think Chelsea have got one over on player agents when nobody else has? Aren't they the biggest payer of agents in the league too?
But in all honesty this may well become more of a trend for all clubs.

But what most clubs are not doing is buying players they clearly don't really want on massive contracts, as a way of giving another club enough money to buy their homegrown players for PSR purposes.

Maybe, I didnt clearly explain that particular comment.
The point I am suggesting is:
Clubs maywell be forced to use the barter/ back to back/ loan & buy deals processes as a way to manage FFP/ PSR compliance.
Clubs are giving out 5 yr+ contracts, which seemed to be novel up until recently.
What im not suggesting , is that clubs will follow the buying strategy that Chelsea have adopted, as in loading players/ player banking.
There is a clear distinction.
