The way he ditched Spurs for us is well worthy of a knighthood imo.

Our Sol Campbellend is a proper David Brent. The only thing I'm surprised about with this news is that he hasn't called out the powers that be yet for being racist for not honouring him a knighthood.

You sound like Sol

Which is way more insulting a comment than I intended!

Sol is a pretty poor football manager and hasn't succeeded anywhere despite being given a number of opportunities. But in his own deluded mind this is because of racism rather than because he's just not a good football manager.

He's just an insignificant nob sack and he knows it. That's his real issue and he knows that too.

None of his Golden Generation peers have knighthoods as far as I'm aware. Not even David Beckham who had a far better career than R Sol.

Just repeating everything John Barnes spouts.

Definitely does not deserve a knighthood. If he does then so do about 200 other british players

I love how the article even mentions the only other ppeople who have received these gongs:

Kenny Dalglish, Trevor Brooking, Matt Busby, Bobby Charlton, Alex Ferguson, Tom Finney, Geoff Hurst, Stanley Matthews, Alf Ramsey, Bobby Robson, and Walter Winterbottom

Yes. Sol definitely should be alongside these names lol

John Barnes makes a lot of very divisive comments about racism and is another poor football manager who has failed several times but believes it's because of racism rather than lack of ability.

He actually said he'd have liked to be a sir, or MBE, OBE etc. which to be fair when you see some of the other names to have these awards, he was probably as deserving.

The headline is slightly misleading as is usual the case.

But the other footballers and managers to have been knighted (with the possible exception of Trevor Brooking) are absolute legends who have gone down in history. Campbell isn't in the same class as the other names.

A number of opportunities?

Took over Macclesfield when bottom of League 2 and in financial turmoil and kept then up. Wasn't paid so left.

Took over Southend who were adrift at the bottom and in financial difficulty. Season ended by Covid and Campbell left.

Not sure how many opportunities he's had but he clearly isn't a good decision maker.

Didn't he also pick Notts County as a player and walked out after a few weeks due to money issues?

I am surprised he got offered any managerial jobs considering the stain on his character and the constant rubbish he spouts.

Was hardly Campbell's fault the Notts County move didn't work out. They brought in Sven Goran Erikssen as director of football and told him to get to work recruiting top players willing to drop down, which he sold to Campbell. He was offered a five year contract on £40k per week, which for a player of his age was a no brainer. However he actually requested the termination of this contract after only one game when it became evident the owners weren't going to do what they sold to Sven and subsequently Sol.

think the main reason hes not been given more opportunities is because he clearly thinks too much of himself.

Not really a one off bad decision though is it, seems like he had been getting bad advice through out his career.

As I say I can’t believe anyone would offer him work as a manager.

He should probably get knighted for services to wumming by signing for Arsenal on a free. Probably the only reason he has to make the claim.

Makes you wonder if any of his charity work was through actual altruistic intentions or he did it just as a means to receive recognition and get onto the honours list.
