Literally seen one of them play
The current team would beat 66 anyway, football has moved on
Obviously
I think it’s comparatively to the opposition - I’d imagine they haven’t allowed any current players in the team until their international team has finished
It really wasn’t that long ago that managing a cross field switch of play was seen as the height of skill
Now every player seems to be able to do it
I’d imagine a soggy leather ball with stitches is a little harder to hoof
When i meant wasnt that long ago i meant the 00s
Lucas Moura did some good bantz on Twitter last night, basically posted about how since WhatsApp and Insta are down he’s got to speak to his wife, who seems nice
Yay cringe married life jokes
I like Thiago Silva's wife cause she is like a pyscho mega fan who actually married her celeb crush

You think people struggled to cross play in the 00s? Bar some CBs I don’t think I agree. If anything football back then was way more focused on that skill and not short passing skills etc
Of course you dont agree, its a something i said
Side to side switches of play are significantly more important now so that isnt true anyway
I’m usually the one who says things first and then people vibe off my takes
Football has obviously massively changed as a spectacle in the last twenty years and the closest back you can go to watch football that is similar today is around 09/10. I don’t really understand the point though, I thin the side seems like a decent enough pick from what little I know of past sides. Obviously any side more recently in history will beat a side far further back in time - however there are too many variables for that debate to really occur.
Which bigger teams now build their game off of switches of play? Liverpool?
Stats suggest the top teams that do it are Man Utd, Liverpool, Wolves and Villa in that order.
Brighton and City sit in 5th and 6th but I’d imagine that’s because the ball travels often a fair distance between the defence as opposed to a more traditional switch of play
The depth of stats you get on fbref is ridiculous
City and Utd make the top 5 for the switch of play stat (ball travelling above shoulder height). But also the bottom four for passes above shoulder height.
I’ve now nerded out a bit, but from these advanced stat sites you can basically figure out how a team plays without ever watching them
Do you think it will be a more enjoyable era of football moving on from having 2 players so far ahead of everyone else?

Not sure, the era I think I will enjoy most is technical football but one or two superstars who had a free reign. Suarez Liverpool, Yaya Man City, Hazard Chelsea (albeit never really played with an attacking manager) etc
I think klopps Liverpool and peps City in comparison are too robotic and without flare. Albeit as they have regressed they have been better to watch.
For whatever reason i really enjoy watching counter press tactics so the last few years have been great for me
It creates more football situations like a 7vs7 game which is enjoyable
For a lot of the time when we had Hazard it was like the attack was not coached so it was literally just him doing what he wanted - this was less the case under Conte and Sarri - that was when he was fun to watch
I agree with Suarez, honestly the Brendan stuff was pretty good to watch
