Fans Can Make A Difference?

Which reaction of the fans though? As I remember some were hostile telling him to go if he wanted and some were upset and wanted him to stay. I'm hoping that Chelsea's erratic form will continue and that that will deter him from going there. I've heard that Chelsea have lost interest anyway. Fans didn't stop Campbell or Defoe from leaving or keane so I'm not sure if VDV is right.

Obviously the reaction from the fans in the ground when he came on as a sub - and thereafter when he has played.

I also think it says something about the respect VDV has for our fans. Especially when he has had his run-ins with Harry continually subbing him and not selecting him for the Europa League.

I was gutted when the Modric story came out and incensed how it was dragged out but you have to admit he looks pretty happy playing for Spurs at the minute.

Also not wanting to argue and obviously none of us no, but im sure Modric didn't decide to stay himself and Levy forced him to, so surely the fans had nothing to do with this anyway

Mata - This is aimed at Spurs fans. Do one

I didn't see the reaction. Newcastle and Arsenal sold their best players and are doing well so there's no reason to think we'd have been any different if we had have sold Modric.

Its not about if he'd gone

its true

No I know that ddd. I wonder if the reaction of the fans when a player plays against his former club has any bearing on the way he plays especially if the fans are hostile.

Mata - There's a difference in how he has reacted between him and, say, Tevez at the other end of the scale don't you think?

posted on 9/11/11

There is a difference, but i don't think the difference is that big. Like Tevez, at first Modric refused to play at the start of the season similar to Tevez against Bayern and so their behaviour was the same. But he's got on well since then which you have to praise him for, but i wouldn't say their actions have been miles apart

You don't think the difference is that big?! You know where Tevez was when he was supposed to be training? You know how he was glued to the bench while his team was losing?

Did Modric refuse to play? Or did he say he didn't feel able to and Harry didn't pick him? He started against City in our second match and that was before the window closed.

But conversley where was modric when you were struggling for options in midfield against one of the best teams in europe and were forced to play Kranjcar and Livermore. Also im sure Modric could have played if he really wanted to, and before the City game didn't he say to Harry that he didn't want to play? Modric has behaved more professionally no doubt, but i wouldn't say his behavior is on the opposite side of the spectrum to Tevez

You're talking about the United game? Thats what I referred to above. Harry decided not to pick him because he said he wasn't right. Find some evidence that he refused to play (ie not just rumours and punchy headlines).

Anyway he played and started the very next Prem game. He couldn't get more opposite from Tevez if he tried. Have Spurs done him for breaches of contract? Don't you think Levy would have if he could?

I think it's easy to forget that footballers are real people, it only makes sense if they're happy playing every week they're more likely to stay. I can't help but wonder how this came up though, it's almost like he took a question about Modric and used it to praise the fans.

It's clear his head was turned with the big money on offer but with the way the football's going i'm convinced he's happy enough now. I just hope he won't want to go if/when Harry leaves.

Bales - I think you're right just from reading that article. As I said earlier its nice to hear that from a player. He sounds like he's not experienced that sort of relationship between player(s)and fans before which surprised me.

Definitely ddd - considering the career van der Vaart's had it is pretty surprising, and nice to hear of course. I'd still like to hear it from Modric himself when he signs a new contract

Don - I have to agree with ddd - Tevez's latest insult to the City fans is the polar opposite of how Modric has acted. Tevez has publicly disrespected the club and it's fans with his actions, while the Modric situation happens all the time.

No, Modric asked to not play against City which is what i'm referring too.
----------------------------------
He started against City. What your point? Even if he didn't want to play, he did. How does that make him anything like Tevez?

posted on 10/11/11

Tevez allegedly said he didn't want to come on and play
Modric said he didn't want to play against United and City. They both committed a similar offence by not wanting to play for their club. The only difference is Tevez has gone about his business in a bad threatening to sue etc, while modric has got on with Football. Tevez is obviously worse, but Modric wasn't exactly innocent in this whole thing
