Who'd Have Thought...?

That with £50M we would have signed Downing, Henderson, Adam and Enrique?

What kind of signings were people expecting with that sort of money at the beginning of the transfer window?

I remember feeling a bit excited with Henderson joining us, pursuing a British policy. I remember Henderson saying that he has been promised that he would be a big part of the team, at that point I thought naaaa. You might be starting from the bench but there is no way you will play ahead of Meireles. Then Adam came and I started thinking hang about, how many midfielders do we need?!

Downing next, he was the most promising BUT for £20M compared to Ashley Young who was considered the better player for only £16M I thought 'bit of a swizz' having said that Carroll for £35M, it has been done.

Then we addressed the left-back issue, something that was crying out for improvement, even then I felt a bit like 'shame.' Only because I knew Kelly would no longer be playing first team all the time.

That's my feelings towards it, I know class players would be hard to come by with no Euro footy but I must admit I was expecting better in that transfer window. How about you?

There we go, guess my assumptions were correct. Would transfer timing have made a difference, or were Villa aware that Liverpool would pay the price whatever touted?

lol only because of the way he left us, after coming to us injured and then saying he would stay even if we got relegated, he goes straight against his word and lies about 'that picture' . we all knew ash was going and he gave us a great 4 years.

Fair enough, didn't know he let you down like that. We are still waiting on all the assists and goals Comolli is asking for

How could any Villa fan resist the hive of activity that is the Villa board as well...

Young is the younger and better player, not that Downing is rubbish or a million miles away but even comparing the seasons their having for their new club Young has performed better (whilst having an injury hit season)

The vast majority of neutrals would select Young over Downing.

Though in Liverpool's defence I am pretty sure they did go for Young first but I think he wanted CL football so Downing was one of the better realistic available talents already in the premier league. The reason you had to pay so much is Villa didn't want to sell whereas they had already accepted that Young was leaving.

I don't even now why I am still arguing that Downing is not better than Young when I think even most Liverpool fans would accept that now...

Saying that you are the guy who claimed Suarez was better than Rooney, Iniesta and probably Xavi.

Enrique was a cracking signing, Henderson a good young prospect and Adam well a decent squad signing for the money but his set pieces seem to have gone downhill and his form hasn't been great recently..

I think without the £35 Million for Carroll Kenny's signings wouldn't look half as bad as they are. Unfortunately that combined with the overpriced Henderson and Downing makes it look a bit worse...

Also you missed out one of your best pieces of business!

Bellamy in on a free transfer!

I think he could have been a valuable part of even the squads of the Manchester clubs and edging into the first XI of the rest of them.
