My head hurts

Following that phone call last night I have spent most of this morning running my internet line red hot trying to second guess what is going on at Ashton Gate that has KM so close mouthed.
I've been looking at every player I can find available and have come up with a short list that fits both the supposed chat with David James and what we are looking for in terms of players.
Available Central Defenders on Free Transfers(Premier League experience) who would be considered a coup if signed by us.

Matt Upson (still can't find any information he has signed for anyone yet.
Jonathan Woodgate - Injury worries but still class and apparently still available.
Stephen Caldwell - Ex Wigan bags of experience.
Ibrahima Sonko - Ex Stoke on loan at Portsmouth last year when we apparently wanted him on loan here.
Sol Campbell - Whats to say everyone knows him and his history.

If KM is looking for an experienced CB to bring on our younger players and be able to play in our defence anyone of the above could fit the bill.

Whatever he is planning I hope it is revealed soon as I don't want to keep doing this or the local chemist is going to run out of headache pills.

I wouldn't see Sol coming to ashton gate but i wouldn't mind the bloke we had off plymoth 2 seasons ago Gary sawyer. He now at the gas and i don't think he would want to play league 2 football

Had a phone call last night from someone I know who works at AG he said NM is expected to sign Monday plus KM was being very close mouthed about something then on that other thread if it was DJ talking it would indicate KM is looking to pull off something special.
From the thread shiny posted - Bumped into David James this afternoon in Exeter. Being the gentleman he is, he stopped and chatted football with me, he said that Bristol City will be dark horses this season. He said that he spoke to Nicky Maynard late last week and Maynard told him he was going to sign his new contract but with options if the right club came along in the way of a min release clause (Jamo would tell me how much, not that we at Exeter could afford him lol) This was one of the main reasons he (James) took up the option of another year up at Bristol. He also said that their manager had been given the ok to spend a bit of cash by their owner, some finance bloke in Gurnsey, and that he was chasing a couple players that would shock a few people and a couple of Premiership loanee's.
The best bit was when he said some of their fans (a vocal minority as he put it) thought they should be up there with the Manc's Chelsea and Arsenal. But then went on to say that most of them were as passionate a bunch of supporters as he's ever met. As I said he is a true gent.

Been trying to tie the two things together and then it occured to me if KM was after a statement signing what better than an experienced highly rated CB especially as there were a few of those available on free transfers who as far as I could find out were still not signed up what was saved on transfer fees would go towards the wages as with David James after all if we had had to buy him could we have afforded a fee and wages?

Hawk mate, one of my good friends lives next to one of our first team players. We're allegedly in talks with an ex england international midfielder that in the player's words will 'make david james signing look small' and that they also have ambitions of further international caps. As with all these things I take it with a pinch of salt until they've signed on the dotted line. Doubted it after Kilkenny signed but was wondering about possibility of Hargreaves on pay as you play or something like that. Could be a load of rubbish but it's what i've heard.

Hopefully monday will be Nicky signing! Anything else is a bonus IMO.

Thats the sort of deal I was thinking about although Woodgate wouldn't go for that with Tottenham but I thought if we went for someone like that if they were injured we could use them to help Academy and Development squad players telling them the best way to 'avoid' injuries and better training practices.
When all said and done clubs like Man U, Arsenal, Man City have better training/coaching than we do and hopfully some of it might have rubbed off on this type of player, anyway it's a long shot but DJ seems to think we are dark horses and I presume he would know who was in the frame, as I rather think KM and SW might well have picked his brains already, or asked him to talk to former teammates.
