Hodgson

Did anybody just see Hodgson take his black arm band off and throw it on the floor in a temper tantrum after Newcastle scored their third goal? - What a guy

How many competitions did Hogdson see through to the end? I think they lost in the Carling Cup and that was it. They were still in the FA Cup and Europa when Dalglish took over. Hodgson could conceivably have won the Europa in his first season while not doing so well in the league, just like Dalglish has managed to win the CC while doing p!sh in the league. Hodgson wasn't wanted from the start either and didn't have the half the backing that Dalglish had/has in terms of both financial and emotional support.

Regardless of all that, Hodgson has never won anything of note. Dalglish has. Hodgson had us flirting with relagation, Dalglish had us seventh.

Wow.. seventh on all that cash!

Move over Roy!

Roy was brought in by the previous owners. Why should the new owners give him money to spend when he isn't their choice and has the club flirting with relegation?

Anyone who thinks Roy is a better manager than Kenny is a sandwich short of a picnic.

On recent evidence you could quite easily say the opposite.

Dagliesh is better than Hodgson but only if we look at the complete record.

After the Blackburn title win Hodgson is no worse or better than Kenny but I would certainly say recent evidence suggests Roy is the better manager.

Take Sunderland as an example, is Marin O'Neil really some kind of super genius because of Sunderland's form just before he took over and their form since?

Or are there a few other factors at play?

We can even use Roy himself, before Roy took over West Brom were in danger of going down, they had a decent start but their recent form had been relegation material then Roy takes over and they fly up the table...

Di Matteo despite being a terrible manager because of his form with WBA (which Roy turned around) is now a super manager because he took over from AVB and results have improved dramatically...

Can you see now why you do have to take into account other factors?

Who says Di Matteo is a super manager?

Roy took over a struggling team in Liverpool, and made them worse.

Dalglish instantly made them better, and has now won a trophy. We are not where we want to be, but we are a hell of a lot better than we were under Hodgson.

Hodgson took over a Blackburn team used to being in Europe, and promptly took them to the bottom of the league when he was sacked as they were on their way to relegation.

Hodgson took over a good team at Fulham who were under performing hideously under long ball terrible manager Lawrie Sanchez. He took them to the level of performance that was to be expected from the decent squad they had, which was midtable and a good run in Europe.

Hodgson took over a decent West Brom side who had suffered a bad run of results, and turned that round to a midtable finish, and they continue to perform about where you would expect them to be.

Hodgson has never managed a good attacking side, all of his sides are built on two banks of four and a largely defensive set up with quick counter attacks. He tried to play like this with Liverpool when neither the players nor the club were suited to it.

Hodgson has never exceeded expectations with any of his clubs. He can meet them in a pretty dull way and is a safe bet if you are anything other than the top 8 in the Prem. He is a bit like Sam Allardyce, not a bad manager, a decent one, but whose style of play is dull, and who is not remotely suited to managing a big club.

Dalglish, on the other hand, is a massive personality manager who brilliantly took on the huge expectations as player-manager at Liverpool and excelled. He took on the huge expectations of big spending Blackburn and took them to the title.

At Newcastle, he blotted his copy book slightly with a 13th place finish in his second season, but still took them to the CL group stages in his first season as runners up in the Prem, and to the FA Cup final in his second season, Newcastle's first cup final for ages.

He is undoubtedly a brilliant cup manager, his league management is more debatable, but he still far better than Hodgson and its obvious to anyone who views their careers objectively.

Anyone who cannot see that and thinks Hodgson is better, is an idiot, plain and simple.

I did mention his achievements with Blackburn and before but considering his time out of the game he can only be judged on the present. At this moment in time he isn't looking a better manager and some could say a worse one considering the different resources available...

I guess only an idiot would think it is okay to question whether a manager who has been out of the game so long would have maybe lost some of his ability and some of his gravitas, not so much with the fans but he isn't a big name to bring players in. Not to the extent he was in his Blackburn days and before.

Yes. Martin O'Neill is a great manager.
