No sentiment ?

I think it might be useful, during our current malaise, to recall the past actions of a man, a player, and manager we hold in the highest esteem, for his past present, and I'm sure, future service to Liverpool Football Club.
When Kenny Dalglish took over as player/manager in 1985, he wasted no time, in doing what he felt was necessary, and was in the best interests of the club.
It would have been easy for him to play an old pals act, and dole out 1 year contract extensions to players he had enjoyed unparalleled success with, Phil Neal, Sammy Lee, Alan Kennedy, etc, but instead, they were let go.
Because Kenny knew then, what Im sure he knows now, you do whats best for the greater benefit of the club, and most importantly the fans.
Now I know, that a lot of Liverpool fans on here, either speak in terms of plastics, fans who would call for Kenny to resign, and others it is claimed, are blind to Kenny's failings, due to the great service he has provided to this club, and this city for that matter.
Neither type of fan can either claim, or accuse each other, of not being supportive enough, or being too myopic when it comes to Kenny's immediate future at anfield.
We all want whats best, not just for the club, although rightly, that's is overall the most important thing, but also whats right for Kenny.
When Kenny came to the club, he said he would only do what he thought was in the best interest of the club, and helping them to progress, and move forward. If he thought this wasn't the case, he would step aside.
Well, Im afraid that time may well have come.
Obviously the players hold as much, if not more responsibility for Liverpool lack of success this season, than Kenny does, but Im afraid there are not enough characters available when writing an article, to go through the down right failings of these players this season, and ultimately, Im afraid the buck stops with Kenny.
Whilst season ticket holder, sky sports subscribers, and parents are spending good money to help the finances of this club, there is no room for sentiment, Kenny knew it then, and Im sure he knows it now.

Well if Kenny does go, then I'm sure there will be a number of quality candidates willing to replace him. The last few seasons have been hell, but there is no denying that the mere name of Liverpool FC will attract good quality managers. And I'm sure there will be many managers out there who will relish the challenge of taking Liverpool back to the top. The foundations are there - the fanbase, stadium options being explored, money available for transfers, and owners who actually know what they are doing.

While a number of people may joke about Rafa coming back, I would actually have him back and I'm sure a lot of other fans would welcome him back. I believe he has unfinished business here, and with Hicks and Gillett not holding him back this time, who knows what he could achieve?

A valid case in point jloo - never go back.

HK had 'issues' but even if he hadn't, he have never repeated his former glories in his 2nd & 3rd attempts.

The calls for the return of Rafa are hilarious to me, as it's as though the mess the club was in when he left has been erased from some kopites memories.....if it happens (& I'm certain he'd be up for it) it's a car crash waiting to happen imo.

You may well be right.
As much as I wouldnt be overly upset to see Rafa come back, there does seem to be a distinct lack of imagination, especially by what are regarded as the top clubs, when it comes to bringing in a new manager.

Who said anything about them being available? They don't have to be currently without a job.

Maybe its time to give managers who are not always included in most peoples usual suspects list, an opportunity.

Whoever gets it, they need to be given time to develop their side. Dalglish has been given an 'extended' honeymoon period, only because of his history with LFC.

Hodgson was outed within months, any non LFC successor would feel the same level pressure to deliver, which given where you are compared to the current elite, is idiotic & you will continue to fail ad infinitum - unless you throw a ridiculous amount of cash at it, & continure throwing it until the inevitable occurs........that's not true football management, that's Champ Manager........

He signed quite a few flops before his departure.
