Hi guys,
my ps3 just got the yellow light of death! It's never happened before and I've had it for around 5 years. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on the easiest or cheapest way to get it fixed. Also, if it's happened to anyone else could they let me know their story. Pretty gutted right now, but I thought I would ask you guys as I'm worried the ps3 forums would be too much for me to handle.
Please help!

put in a large pan of boiling water and bring to the boil, cover and simmer for 2 hours

Smash it with a hammer.
Sorry, don't do that I don't know how to fix it but how does one prevent the yellow light? Just lots of open space behind it is it? Or us it more likely to happen if the PS3 is old?(my PS3 is only just over 2 years old, and is the slimline)

the slimlines are less likely to do it, and as with everything, the reason for it is the fecking environmentalists.
nowadays lead solder isn't allowed, so they have to use crappy synthetic stuff, which doesn't last.
As far as i know, there is no long-term fix other than giving it to someone with a rework station to remove the chips and solder them back in with decent solder - but there are ways of temp fixing them, but they will go again. (it's for this very reason you should never buy a second hand ps3 or xbox)

theres a way my mate did it cos bout 15 quid for tools and parts took him 3 hours. but hes technically unskilled. theres a you tube vid that tells u what u need then u follow it step by step. sony will charge u sont like 150 quid to do this same repair and ud be without for 5 weeks

You throw the PS3 away, invest in a Sega Megadrive and spend the rest of your life thinking you're still in the 90s.
Works for me everytime

Get a new ps3, honestly.
I tried the hair dryer, didn't work for me.
Paid for it to be repaired, within 3 weeks the ylod came back. I sent it back to the man as I had a 1 month warrantee and he told me it was unfixable at this point. Had to buy a new ps3.

There's no permanent for the YLOD, i would recommend you look on you tube as there is many videos on a temporary fix and then trade it in, you would get 60-80 pound for it in cash.
