New striker statistics

I love statistics.

I like a night of statistical analysis the same way Steven Gerrard likes a night with his sister in law. The only problem is they lie to me. like women and Luka Modric.

Forlan has an outstanding career total in Spain (and Argentina) but last season was terrible.

Van der Vaart - 15 goals
Pavlyuchenko 11 goals,
Crouch 11
Defoe 9
Forlan 9

Rossi has had a mediocre career so far, but scored 32 in 56 appearances last season.

Llorente also has a mediocre record but scored 19 last season, his previous best being 14.

So sign Llorente then, but be absolutely sure Rossi has what it takes to replicate last season before you pay an extraordinary 35 million! Otherwise that ones got 'what a waste of money' being chanted for years. 35 million could get you Anelka AND Adebayor. Or easily pay for Drogba, Sturrdige, Gyan, Berbatov, Eto - with change. I'm well aware wages would prevent some of those from joining.

Rossi is not worth 35 million. Or is he..Discuss

Some nice stats there

What ever happens we need at least 2 new strikers who can score goals, if we have the money then i would scream for us to bring in Rossi and Llorente, both goal machines

You need to remember the amount of chances we create per game, Rossi and Llorente would actually put those chances away

And i dont think they will be asking for £35 million for Rossi, i expect it to be more like £25 million

It's not about the transfer fee.. it's about the wages that will force players switch clubs. Apparently Rossi is on 90k a week at a CL club.

Even 35 million is 'fair' assuming his incredible scoring record of over 1 goal every 2 games wasn't a flash in the pan. I was hoping we have some affinados who could shed some light on the matter! Rossi's stats are quite incredible. From pretty much nothing to pretty much the best in Western Europe in a single season, Ronaldo aside.

I'd prefer Rossi out of the two, he captained Italy last year and grew up in America so might settle on a bit better. One important point though is that although none of our strikers could hit a cows backside with a banjo we had an off form van der vaart scoring 14 as a second striker. It may well be we are only looking at one top striker to come in and then a younger feller as a back up.

Atouba, that is pretty much how i see it, if we spend big on one striker and have a back up in a younger player, who unfortunately we would still need to spend pretty big on, In my limited opinion that would suffice - the worry being if our main striker got a long term injury (and that is how our luck runs), we would be bare boned again relying on the younger man as our main striker.

does anyone know if either Llorente or Rossi are particularly injury prone? as i dont know a great deal about them.

good article btw ,ok.

I agree that with VDV's quality we can afford to spend pretty big on one nailed-on goal machine. If we get Sandro's mate as back-up as well we still have JD Pav and Crouch (depending on who leaves with Notso and Gio). Some new blood up front might even shake up the ideas of our remaining strikers. With VDV in the side there isn't room for 4 of them anyway - they will get bored sitting around waiting for their big game chance again. Of course if we manage to stay in all comps until the New Year then theres plenty of games to go round

we need big changes up top. a bit of tinkering aint good enough.

JPB - But with VDV taking up that 5th midfield berth there isn't space for 4 strikers. Last season we let Gio and Notso go out on loan and I think the 3 that were left took their foot off the pedal. New blood will stop that.

If we get one very good striker, Leandro and keep 2 of the 3 we had that should easily be enough - and it may still be too difficlut to keep them all interested.

You can't change the entire forward line and expect them to hit the ground running. Look at when we lost Berbs and Notso.
