Couple of Pointers

I know we played quite well yesterday and we won 4-0 but I think against a team like Southampton or Reading they would have scored all those chances Doncaster were allowed to create and we might not have won the game!

I think our problem is when the opposition has the ball we don't press enough and seem happy for them to have the ball and knock it around then worst of all we allow far too many crosses to come into our box which is why I think we have conceded so many goals!

I think this would be about the only issue I can still have, we look good going forward especially when we get the ball wide.

If we can keep the tempo up and press more and put more pressure on the ball we will stop conceding so many goals also anyone else think when Wellens gets the ball he kills the tempo we have and takes to long in deciding what to do with the ball allowing the opposition to get back behind the ball.

Don't get me wrong was well pleased with the result and match yesterday and there are some good signs of improvement just a couple of points that I thought i'd put up for disscussion?

Thoughts?

I think you're spot on. It's more to do with how we defend as our side rather than the defenders themselves. There is isn't enough pressure on the ball and our shape gets lost too easily for me. Danns is a big miss in that respect because he is always combative and gets around the pitch well.

Wellens for me doesn't do enough defensively. He seems to only want to play exclusively in the vicinity of around the centre circle and about 10 yards either way.

Having said that, I think this back four is our strongest one and hopefully when they get a good understanding together they will have the confidence to push the team further up the pitch and defend a higher line which would allow us to press the opposition more.

I agree with your comments to an extent. The pressing you speak about in a 4-4-2 was evident in the Southampton game away where we didn't give them time on the ball and dictated the pace.

However, you can't do that for 90 minutes in every game and you need to slow it down to recover - Wellens does this well. There's no denying he's not at his best at the minute.

I think the reason we look so open in a 4-4-2 is the space between the midfield and defence is too big allowing teams to get in behind them exposing the back 4. I think that if we want to make it work, we need a Danns type player bit one who is more defensive minded who will protect the back 4.

I'd also like to stick up for Wellens a little. Whilst he's not been playing great, I think the movement seas of him has been poor in recent weeks. Wellens is at his best when there us a pass on as he will always find it. Since we switched back from 4-4-2, Beckford has looked isolated and I think this I because the wide 2 in Dye and Nugent haven't suited their roles. When people like King are making runs, Wellens is great at picking them out.

So, I agree that a better team would have punishe us yesterday, and we still look vulnerable in a 4-4-2.

Pearson needs to work out what needs to be done to tighten it up for next season.

Wellens and Lennon very simular playing in the centre circle

As an aside, does anyone think that the fans relationship with Gallagher is at an all time low.

Gallagher looked like he was playing with two fingers up to us, didn't celebrate his goal at all and just looked like he would rather be playing for any other club.

Was it just me who thought that? In some ways, I don't blame him for some of the disgusting treatment he's got, but on the other I don't rate him in this division and he is infuriating to watch.

I think the treatment gally has got is disgraceful! Made me so mad when people around me booed him as he came on! Then when he scored there all jumping up and down!

Yeah iv been a critic of his but I don't see people attacking Wellens family or booing him even though he hasn't been playing that well!

Im all for being able to criticize performances because thats what fans should do but to take it beyond that and booing a player before hes even made it on to the pitch is just wrong! Everyone got behind Beckford yesterday even though i saw him back out of a couple of challenges so wheres everyones issue with gally!

Mersey I agree about Gallager, although this is nothing new - Some of the grief he's received during match time has been bang out of order - He's in a Leicester shirt and should only be supported - That said, Some of his performances have also been bang out of order.

Of course he's never put in a bad shift on purpose, but the fact remains some have been absolutely shockingly bad and for that he must expect criticism and if he wants to show that on the pitch with a bit of a hissy strop, he can only expect one outcome.

I'd like to see him show a bit more professionalism and show the doubters that class is permanent and come good again

Nev - But Lenny was in a 3 man midfield so you can afford that but in a two you have to do more work.

Gallagher did well when he came on I thought. Certainly the defensive aspect of his game was better than it has been recently and he took his goal - wouldn't be surprised to see him start tommorow. On his celebration, it was 4-0 in the last minute so I wouldn't really expect a triple somersault in that situation.

We fans are fickle and if he plays well, the fans will applaud him and support him. Personally, I think he's a good squad player to have for next season because he does have the ability to change a game from the bench.

Yes and the cover of two wing backs 1884.

Gally got what the crowd gave Beckford got from some so called supporters.

My old man and a few others will be spinning in their graves knowing how we treat players in a Blue shirt.

Thats not to mean they felt any different than we do know they just kept their council.

Yes I agree with this article 99%. The 1% is that, for me, I don't think Wellens is a problem when he's got the ball, but when he hasn't. He's not mobile or energetic enough to close down the opposition, which is why we're missing a high energy player like Danns who arguably has less quality than Wellens, but makes up for it with his endeavour.

I think Drinkwater offers just as much if not more technical ability that Wellens shows so Im hoping that we can sort a midfield of Drinkwater and Danns when he is back because that will give us better legs in the middle and give Drinkwater more time on the ball.

Been a right pain Danns getting sent off was a silly challenge that he should never have gone for! honestly think we would have had better results in the games he has missed and looking forward to having him back
