UTV to ditch the Irish League ???

Hardly surprising news as they never show any coverage, but if true how will that affect other media coverage. The BBC can just about muster a couple of live games a season and bizzarely Final Score NI seem to be increasingly covering the 1st half of games only !! Sky have led the way with some excellent coverage, but not everyone can subscribe to that. How long will Sky's interest last ? The IFA don't seem to be too bothered about it as long as their precious National Team get covered. I'd rather watch paint dry.

The Welsh League is less attended than the Irish League (and that's saying something) but yet it gets live games every week on the Gobbledygook Channel. The SPL is a farcical two team League and it gets excellent coverage domestically and on Sky. Even RTE in the South show a live domestic game every week AND a weekly round up show lasting an hour !! You'd be lucky to get 5 mins on Final Score NI !!

Is another nail in the coffin for the League ? Do we need an All-Ireland League to breathe new life into the local game ? We might at least get some coverage !!

UTV pulling out will make no difference to an "already dead in the water" league. Sky did breathe a bit of life into it but showing a few games a season isnt gonna save it. Attendences are a joke all because of 1 reason. We need a summer league! A lot of the amateurs playing on a Saturday would love to go and watch local football , but cant because they are playing. If it was a summer league , it would change.

No live matches on local TV channels is a joke.

I did laugh at the Gobblitygook channel line though

Sure their sports coverage only ever contained 2 minutes and that was Ulster Rugby and Gaelic with about 10 seconds of Football, normally Rangers or Celtic.
More coverage on the downfall of Rangers than on local football.
Disgusting but not surprising decison.

Anyhow if an all Ireland League was formed they would only be interested in any ensuing violence.
UTV Sport = Joke

Wish the Gobbleygook Channel could sponsor our League

the reason its a dead league is simple - the IFA have been financially doping linfield to allow the unwarranted success and effectively kill off any competition..

its bizarre that the other clubs allow this so in a way they probably deserve it

Very poor from UTV! As EARL says, the drift seems to be towards Rugby and GAA.
