Stuart Broady Broad

What are we to do with StuBo... He's under some obscure illusion that he HAS to bowl short all the time in all forms of cricket! Watching it is infuriating and I am currently watching him bowl to Kamdamby, and he has just been hit for a four down to fine leg, wait for it, off ANOTHER bouncer.

How predictable and boring.

Why doesnt someone talk some sense into him? Or at least drop him to let him know that he is performing about as well as a paralyzed tree-stump.

Please, anyone with contact to Stuart Broad...

TELL HIM TO PITCH THE BALL UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Goodness, youd think that one of the 1,000,000,000,000,000 coaches that England have would realize that Broad's best performance in an england shirt was at the Oval in 2009... when he pitched the ball up, and tell him:

'hey Broady, youre bowling like a amputee. Try bowling at the offstump instead at the batsmans chest, yeah?'

To add a slight tinge of irony to the whole episode, ive just seen young Stuie on the Maximuscle advert, and hitting the stumps! (So he can actually do it!)

Personally think our ODI team has 3 main problems at the moment, (no, not 'can't bat, can't bowl, can't field' )

1) Cook, Trott and Bell. Can we pick all 3 of them?
And, if we do, should they be stuck up top allowing bigger hitters to come in lower down the order?

2)KP and Broad. Two of our better ODI players historically, but both have issues with their form. KP seems to be playing a little better recently but keeps getting out when seemingly set. Broad has been poor of late, but is returning from quite a serious injury. Persist with them or not?

3)Batsmen who can bowl. Bresnan has been doing OK with the bat at 7, but it'd be nice to have a proper batsman there. Samit Patel would appear to be an answer but, if he were brought in say, for an out of form Broad, could he be trusted to bowl 10 overs? Could a solution be to bring in someone like Bopara (Stokes??) for Bell/Trott AND Samit for Broad, giving deeper batting + a couple of options for 10 overs?

Agree with you about Bopara, Gingerfinch, his display in the Twennytwenny earlier in the week was embarassing - however, I thought KP was more than a little culpable, going for a marquee shot when in the forties and well set. If KP had kept going, and Cook had fallen, I think England would have got the requisite 290/300.

Broad needs a rest, that's pretty clear.

Hoggy
Point three is why I am struggling to pick a team.
One of Trott, Bell or even KP need to go and be replaced by Patel, Bopara or someone of that ilk. This though does not solve the number seven problem.

"This though does not solve the number seven problem."

It would if you brought in one of Patel/Bopara/Strokes/Collingwood for Broad/Dernbach, or two of the above for Broad/Dernbach +Trott/Bell and used him/them as the 5th bowler.

So howabout a team of, say:

Cook(c)
Kieswetter(wk)
Trott
KP
Morgan
Bopara/Stokes
Patel
Bresnan
Swann
Broad/Dernbach
Anderson

More batting depth.
6 bowling options (+Trott and KP)

So, 4 bowlers plus Patel and Bopara?
This could leave us light in the bowling but hey we have to lose out somewhere.

I think we need to look at the batting first - if we bat first we seem to set a low target and bowlers can only work to panic plans - if we bat last - we dont have the power or bottle to chase targets - making the batting line up as long as possible is not the answer - obviously it is an ideal world - every team wants a long batting line up - and we are no exception but our top and middle order need to get on top of the opposition bowlers before a long batting line up can be there as our back up.
I would bring in Hales at the top to try him for a start - Im not sure why we have to have the WK opening but if we do then maybe cook could play at 3 - either way in the last 2 games I dont see what difference Patel would of made

bloody ell gonna drop bell, cook and trott and start picking people like bopara and patel!!

Ravi has had so many chances to make an impression for England its time to forget abouit him. To me Patel deserves a good run but not at the expense of quality.

I think one of Englands problems is that we blood players in odi's its a hard form of the game with little margain for error. Having said that I think its necessary because injuries, form and rest dictate we can pick the same XI every game.

Like I say though the main problem is that we're just not that good

Heres my XI

1. Cook
2. Bell
3. Trott
4. KP
5. Stokes
6. Morgan
7. Keiswetter
8. Bresnan
9. Broad
10. Swann
11. Tremlett

In time and when appropriate i'd be looking to bring in Bairstow, Taylor and Hales

Don't forget that patel has been in the t20 side too.

Who is there in the counties that could come in? All this talk of moving players around the order sounds like rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic!

Broad is back with a important wicket of Randiv. So England will keep selecting him then
