Pundits Who Could Play Footie

Do pundits who used to play the game have any better insight into it than the ones who didn't?? For example Jamie Redknapp won honours with Liverpool, Andy Gray with Everton etc yet people continously slate them. I think pundits who could play have a better insight, like me.
