2 2 legged knockout round. Draw with no seedings on spread out days across a week or so.
20 teams
Group stage. Each team plays eachother once. 5 groups of 4. Groups winners go through plus the 3 best runners up.
Play off between the runners up if neccessary.
Then Q-F, S-F over 2 legs.
Then final!
Meantime re-arrange the football calendar to allow this.
Ditch the Europa leage for ever.
Then everyone is happy!
Anyone got any ideas how to improve upon this?

How are the smaller teams that bolster their squads with the money from Europa league happy? This would just mean that the team that wins their domestic league would be the ones that don't send their best players round the world getting jet lag.

If they did introduce this then the two world club trophies already won by United would be included in the tally. Just as European cups won when the format was different and significantly easier to win are included by clubs such as Madrid and our five fingered friends when comparing themselves against the likes of Barca who are winning them in the modern era.

It would be too cumbersome to implement. The only way to do it would be to make the preliminary rounds of the tournament a regional affair. S, America, Africa, Europe, Asia etc.
Start with 16 teams in each region with the top four from each region going through to the 'finals'.
Four groups of four in the finals with one team from each region per group. Top two in each group through to the quarters, to be drawn with no seeding. winners to the semis, and then the final.

Are you thinking that, instead of an annual competition, that this is played every, say, 4 years? Because I could see that working.
