So my theory on the Centre of midfield next year. I will discuss all CM players associated with Arsenal and the system to use, as to be honesty it's a bit of a mess!
The Players
Arteta
Song
Rosicky
Ramsey
Wilshere
The Ox
Diaby
Denilson
Arshavin
Frimpong
Coquelin
Lansbury
The Tactics
Now I believe we need to keep the current 3 man midfield as it suits our style of play and gives a good balance. However unless we sign a WORLD CLASS Playmaker I think it needs tweaking as we have no Fabregas .
In this system the midfielders roles are less defined and even more fluid, in light of Song's attempts to be a playmaker we have several players who are very similar. Therefore I propose this as a formation next year:
1st Choice
-----------Song------------Wilshere------------Arteta------------
2nd Choice
----------Coquelin--------Rosicky-----------Ramsey-----------
In the first choice all the players are quite similar and are very well-rounded, technically proficient midfielders. Therefore, they should all rotate in who attacks and who holds stays back! Rather than this desperate need for a focal point of a playmaker, a collective creativity will make us much more of a threat and allow us to play Song and Arteta, who have been undroppable this year, with Wilshere who is our most talented midfielder!
Also the Ox can rotate in various postions as he continues his development
To be Sold
Arshavin
Denilson
Diaby
To be Loaned
Frimpong
Lansbury
Hope this isn't too long for you all,
Thoughts?

Don't sell Diaby!

I thought about Diaby, the thing is we have so many players in this position he just wastes a valuable squad place.
It's like only being allowed 24 players!

I'd go with the trio of Song-Arteta-Wilshere with Jack playing the more advanced, creative role. For me though, Coquelin will be pushing strongly for a first team place. He's such a talent. It amazes me when people call for us to sign M'Vila when we have this guy in our squad, he'll become a top DM for us.
Agree with Frimpong needing a loan, still raw, but was very promising in his short time at Wolves. Arshavin and Denilson to go as well hopefully, and Lansbury as well I'd say. Wenger bigged him up a couple of years ago but I just don't think he'll make it with the talent we have coming through. Diaby won't he sold, mainly because no one will buy such an injury prone player IMO. I can only hope he overcomes his troubles because he's a fantastic player, a beast.

I agree Wilshere will be the most attacking but I still think it needs to be shared more especially as Wilshere is a very effective all round midfielder and has been out for a year!!

Denilson is to continue his loan with Sao Paulo, so won't be sold. I think Diaby might be though, hence the M'Vila rumours resurfacing... or perhaps that's just the player's agent?
Two more midfielders that could well be included next season are Ozyakup and Henderson. One or both could be loaned though.

Yeah, that's the worry. My hope is that he misses the Euros and the Olympics and gets a full pre-season to get back into the swing of things. If that happens then we should be alright, but it's unlikely though. Still, we have Rosicky who has proved more than able, and Oxo can play there as well of course. And Diaby
I think we'll be alright.
Hopefully.

Everyone still seems to want to play an advanced playmaker, I just think without anyone of Fabregas quality we would be better off playing without such a defined focal point as a creator.

Arsenal need will register 25 players, but can also include U21 players who are unregistered as well.
Wenger will include in his first team squad at least 8
and possibly 9 midfield players to allow for rotation and different options of play.
Of those currently registered with Arsenal Benyaoun is
likely to be released and I suspect Frimpong will be loaned out as he was supposed to go out on loan in January but then sustained a serious injury.
I cannot see Arshavin, Denilson or Lansbury returning. They will be sold or loaned out. Lansbury will go. He is now 21 and failed to secure a regular place in first team of West Ham.
This means that there are potentially two places to fill.
It is possible that Wenger might experiment with Oxlade-Chamberlain as attacking midfielder rather than winger since Miyaichi may return.
This means bringing in one new player.

Suggestions for a new players?

It is unclear whether Wenger will opt for a defensive or
attacking midfield.
I doubt that Wenger will buy another centre back even
if Vertonghen is available. He has bought 4 in the last
3 years. If Squillaci is offloaded I suspect that he might
be replaced by Miquel as 5th choice.
However there is a strong case for Wenger to buy a
top class specialist defensive midfielder. Most of the
players on our books eg Song,Coquelin and Diaby
play a box to box game. We need someone playing
in front of defence who is more disciplined than these
three.
