There has been a lot of talk on here about Carra being a liability. But did you watch Stevie throughout the match. He barely broke out of a walk. He has totally lost his legs. He also played so deep as to be almost invisible and contributed far less than Spearing who never stopped running and even managed to get forward on many occasions.
Sad to say, Carra is being picked on sentiment and Stevie on past reputation. They say that Bob Paisley was ruthless when it came time to drop players and Kenny now needs to show some of that steel or he could end up paying for it with his own job.

we will do that in the Summer, for me, at the moment we need his experience in big games esp the final.
Be a good player to come off the bench but agree his time is probably up for being a give me in the first team, hope this is Cara last season as well and he concentrates on his coaching.

Won a free kick that resulted in the winner which showed a little burst of pace that he still has. Bottom line is that he does not trust Spearing cos he average. I'd still prefer to see Stevie play higher up with Spering and Hendo playing in central midfield.

Tennishua, I did an article yesterday on him and was lambasted in some quarters; we are all entitled to an opinion. He still has a lot to offer, as I've said elsewhere, we should looking at the likes of Dorrans (WBA) to replace him, I don't think Jonjo is anywhere near ready to fill the gap. Lets wait and see what he does after the EC. He is still the backbone of the squad. YNWA JimmyTheRed

He was asked to do a job and he did it well. He still made the occasional burst forwards and that led to our second goal.
Nonsense.

Gerrard hasn't lost his legs at all; I saw him carry the ball forward about 60 yards against Aston Villa and nobody could catch him when he was moved out to the right.
Someone made a good point after that match; when he's playing out wide or behind a striker, his movement is brilliant because he understands those roles better, whereas in CM, the game can pass him by.
He's still got plenty in the tank; Everton couldn't handle his movement at Anfield.

I would agree that Stevie's best position is in the hole behind the striker as in days gone by with Torres. However, to put him in that position now would mean no place for either Suarez or Carroll. Personally, I think that Stevie would score more goals than Carroll over the course of a season but that would make Carroll a very expensive bench warmer.
Getting back to my original point though. It has to be obvious to all but the most rose-tinted spectacle wearers that he now has no pace. Over and over again when Liverpool were moving forward he was getting left behind by younger, faster players of both teams. His overall contribution yesterday, in a game where he had called for heroes to step forward, was pretty much annonymous. He certainly offered less than Downing and Spearing and probably even less than Henderson.
Both Carra and Stevie are, and will always be LFC legends, but nobody can play forever. Kenny couldn't, Rush couldn't, Fowler couldn't, Barnes couldn't and sorry to say it and offend so many of you, neither can Carra and Stevie.

Just watched it again and Gerrard played a part ina lot of the attacks. He was told to keep it simple and he did it brilliantly.

I guess some people here are judging things on JCs performance yesterday and 'that' clearance? to me it looks like Agger has the better chance of clearing it but faffs around, someone had to kick the ball, it should've been agger. JC might be getting towards the end of his playing career but microanalysing carp like that and wrongly blaming him doesn't show the full picture. There are 3 other defenders on the pitch for us, same as using stats for SGs performances, there are other midfielders not putting in a shift on the pitch too. Both of these players take on the captains mantle ushering the new guys around and trying to damage limit any effects that go on, you can't be all things to all people all the time all over the pitch.
Personally I think we'll see both players take more of a bench role next season, rested more wtih JC phasing out altogether by the mid or end of the season with SG being tested to see if he's still got it for regular squad play or coming on as a super-sub, like bellers is almost atm.

Sorry Reggie, I disagree. Jamie's days in a Red shirt should be over. As of now. He is too old/slow. JimmyThered
