Wenger Is a Legend

The abuse Arsene Wenger has got from the press, and even some of our own fans this season is quite unfair. Admittedly some was justified, but the overall picture was not being seen.

I understand things have improved a lot recently, but still let’s put this into perspective.

Despite being constantly top of the ‘injury table’ and having the most crazy injury situation in defence (impressive even for Arsenals standards!) Not only that we lost our 2 best players last summer, Arsenal could still finish 3rd - I take note of Man utd’s injuries while I write this.

Is it really that bad?

The only two teams above us at the moment are Manchester United, and Manchester City, one has a billionaire owner who has spent absolute fortunes to get where they are. The other is one of the biggest clubs in the world.

It's hard to compete with this. It’s like the force India team in F1, trying to complete with Ferrari - on a financial level there is no contest.

Arsenal are a club STILL going through an evolution in order to complete financially at the highest level. We are trying to achieve this during one of the worst global recessions in memory, a recession so bad that some European countries are going bust.

some people complain about financial caution in the Transfer Market?

£18m for Jordan ‘jack of all trades, master of none’ Henderson?
£35 for Andy Carroll?
£18 for Stewart Downing?

You only have to look at Liverpool’s situation – Without Wenger’s foresight and ability to work within a budget, I believe this could easily have been us.

Granted they may have won the Carling Cup, but in terms of Club development we are miles ahead. A new stadium, a new financial set up which is setting the foundations for a prosperous future.

I wish some Arsenal fans could see this sometimes.

Unfortunately the modern day fan is influenced by the media to much. The internet gives us access to all sorts of outlets. Outrageous statements are necessary to keep us tuned in, and Wenger is an easy target.

Don’t fall for it, because he’s doing a grand job in the circumstances.

Wenger has indeed made errors (at times big errors too) - but he is the perfect man to see the club through this period. Yes we’ll sign a few players, Podolski here, maybe someone else there, but don’t expect £30m signings because it won’t happen for now. We are not there yet.

One thing about being a football fan is without the so called ‘bad times’ you cannot enjoy the good times.

Not winning anything for 7 years is indeed a worry. But I tell you, when we do win something I will feel infinitely better and more appreciative than any Barcelona or Man city fan ever could be.

I totally agree.

This article is pretty stupid to be honest, because you start on abuse Wenger recieved months ago... then argue against it with the position Arsenal are in now. As if the abuse is still going on.... when it isn't.

The abuse came becasue Arsenal were awful at the start of the season and again around the Milan first leg. When you pay as much as the Arsenal fans, I think it's only fair you can give the manager and players stick when they get bummed 8-2 and 4-0 by teams of a similar standard.

If Arsenal were in 3rd place all season, Wenger wouldn't have recieved the abuse he did. Now that they are in 3rd place, a majority of the critics admit Wenger has proven them wrong and in most cases, now have a lot more respect for him.

Fantastic manager, pointless article.

In terms of this season he has done incredibly... every pundit predicted us to drop out of the top 4. Some even claimed, should he get us into the CL next season it should rank up there as one of his greatest achievements

However he put us on a par with Man Utd within a season of joining and we're not there anymore partly down to his decisions

We shouldnt be praising him when we know he's capable of better

Obviously with the position Arsenal are in now, I am able to back up the argument that the original abuse he was getting was unfair.

I have always backed him, when a lot of fans have not, and the media an hype criticism was something not to be beleive at the time.

Credit is due to le prof. He's players he has brought in whihc were ridiculed as panic-buys have largely been successful (Park aside). This after all our complaints that we always let key players go without replacement.

I'm greatly looking forward to next year, (without trying to sound too much like a Liverpool or Spurs fan), I just have a feeling that Arsene will see now as a perfect time to start building at team really capable of winning trophies. I believe he thinks that he's played it cautiously for long enough and now might be as good a time as any to spend some decent money on the squad provided he can shift out the players he doesn't want anymore.

Completely agree with the OP, but I was saying the same thing months ago. But if you say stuff like this, people just bang on about "Arsenal fans only concerned with bank balance", "Arsenal fans happy with top 10/6/4". Of course those comments only come from a minority of ManU/Chelsea/ManC/Liverpool/Spurs fans. Everyone else isn't so stupid.

Wincoll : "I'm greatly looking forward to next year, (without trying to sound too much like a Liverpool or Spurs fan), "

Actually, Liverpool fans : "Next year is out year", Spurs fans "This year is our year.....oh, maybe not".

Well done OP. Great article. Sometimes I had slight doubts about him but in all honesty never wanted him to go. He is an Arsenal Legend.
