Yesturdays Game and the Significance of 4th

Great result and performance yesturday. Yet it has been somewhat marred by the 'controversial' second goal, which apparently defined and characterised the game. Lets be honest, it did not. We were the superior side from the offset, and Tottenham were horrifically inefficient (e.g. Adebayor and VDV chances). We deserved the result thoroughly, and I implore anyone to argue that Tottenham would have won the game had the 2nd goal not stood. Also, the argument that it would have been 1-1 had the goal not counted is poor; the goal affected the run of play and Tottenham would not have had the same impetus as they would have at 2-0 down. Ultimately, the win was inevitable.

On the matter of a Top 4 finish, I do not believe it is has vital now as it was a month or so ago. Yes we need the revenue which Champions League football will generate, especially with the imminent FFP rulings, but players will still be attracted to the prospect of playing for Chelsea. Consider yeturday's result, as well as our Champions League run. We clearly still have a profound culture of success, and prospective players will not be so negligent as to believe that this 'strange' season, shall we say, is entirely representative of this team's ability and ambition. The wages we can offer should not be dismissed either. And this is why I would not be surprised to see the likes of Modric,Cavani or Hazard join Chelsea in the Summer.
