Apparently we should be 'Proud'

At least thats what Hill is saying about the team and supporters if Yahoo is to believed. However the selection of comments below suggest otherwise and maybe , just maybe someone upstairs should take a chance and go for it because as sure as eggs are eggs they'll be no difference next season except an even greater danger of relegation if the mindset of the Board doesn't change.

And regardless of Asparagus and his so called wit, watching the club make progress at any level is like paddling in treacle.

''Although its unlikely that Mick McCarthy would come and join his home club, if he did join just think of the hype there would be. Im sure there would be an increase in season tickets, there would be better attendances and there would be football worth watching. He aint going to break the bank, he's a manager not a World Class player on 100k a week. Barnsley need some ambition and have to take chances, it cant keep going on like this. Finishing in the relegation zone battle area is not good, there is a formula that when you get promotion from a lower league that at first you settle for survival, then go for a mid table and then push for play-offs and promotion. Barnsley has done survival for the past 3-4 seasons, played poor football and not progressed at all. Got to go for it and take a chance.

Hill is an idiot if he thinks that bfc supporters will be proud of what he as achieved. He got lucky this time and needs to be booted out before we do go down.

Agree with all of posts 1 - 4. Sadly BFC resources pretty much guarantee that Mick M wont be our next manager. I doubt that the guy is a registered charity and no doubt in the close season, a new job will come his way. Looking at it from his point of view, would you actually want the Barnsley job anyway? Thought not!

hill has made us look like at best a top league 2 team. Hill your deluded, arrogant and not even a good manager.... go away from BFC !!!

if we played 50 league matches we would be relegated no doubt about it. were worst this year than the last 2 years. if we got a well respected gaffer in (big Mick) and not some1 from the lower leagues (Robbins Davey HILL) maybe we would attract better class players with experience that could actually take us up the table.

''Proud'' ???.just WTF has Hill or players got to be proud about ? We had to rely on others doing the dirty work for us . The man is a complete nutbag and needs showing the door before we do get relegated next time up.

Do you have some sort of filter built into you that misses out most of the articles other points? This news article has been posted on other sites and what Hill actually says is that he is relieved that we are now safe and disappointed that we had to finish the season the way we did as our form until January was great.

He has mentioned that we should be proud that we finished in the Championship and within budget (which is a hard thing to do in football today)

He also mentions (On a few other sites) that he regrets selling Vaz Te and is going to try and avoid making the same sort of mistakes with the contracts of players he intends to sign during the summer.

I am gutted at the way the second half of the season has turned out but know the reasons why (A number of key players unavailable due to injuries/ sold off with no real top quality replacements available).

Whilst I'm happy that we've managed to stay in the Championship, I'm happy with the manner in which we achieved it. We were more or less home and hosed by the New Year as far as safety was concerned. In fact a few optimists were talking about the play offs, then we lose Vaz Te, Butterfield and Drinkwater, and not many teams would be able to cope losing 3 of their best players without adequately replacing them. With the resources we have how could we replace them? Nobody would let go of players of that quality mid season, but we had no choice, and so we are where we are.

Let's give Hill the opportunity to rebuild in the close season and see what happens, this season was always going to be a season of transition with a new manager putting across new ideas and tactics. Sadly some factors could no be legislated for and knocked us back quite a bit and we never fully recovered.

And, for those 'fans' who are calling for Hill to go and be replaced by Mick McCarthy probably don't know that Mick has said that he will never manage Barnsley as he wouldn't want to ruin his love for club if it went belly up, and with our so called supporters they'd be hounding him out by Christmas if we weren't in the play offs, or pushing for the title!

Seriously, if Hill went who could we realistically replace him with with our budget? We would only go into League One or Two for his replacement, and we'd be back to square one. For the record, I'm happy with Hill and think it would be unwise to get shut of him after just one season.
