Afternoon Gents,
So we have a tricky game against a team that has certainly pulled its socks up, under their inspirational leader, but one which has gone off the boil recently (a perfect time to pick up some points against Villa I here you say!). Since the 3-3 against City, they've drawn two, and lost one 4-0, scoring no goals in the process (sounds like us don't it?!).
How should ginger approach this game with respect to formation, tactics, etc? What will be the scores on the doors come FT? And what will MON do with his team?
Thoughts.

You'd know all about thumpings mate! Just not CL material I'm afraid, not even close. And keep arry, we don't want that crook on the plane! Oh well, at least Arsenal will keep the North London end up.

do you think MON will get a good reception boy from brum?

Boy from Brum,
Hope you don't mind a contribution from a Blues fan - I seem to remember someone taking exception to me being on here recently.
This game against Sunderland is THE crunch game for Villa as far as I'm concerned- win this one and you're safe and you won't have worry too much about the Bolton game. Just two problems.
One, McLeish just cannot bring himself to set up to win a game- doesn't matter whether its Man U or Wolves- its always 'we must not lose'.
Two: the MoN factor- mentally Sunderland would probably be on the way to the airport for a long spell in the sun, but will O'Neill be out to give Lerner a bloody nose? Linked to that, they've got Larrson and Gardner in the team.
Personally, I just can't see QPR catching you, whether Wigan and Bolton do or not, so I think your safe, but as lots of Villa fans have said on here and other forums, with McLeish in charge next season, you'd be hot favourites for the drop.
As strange as it may sound, I'd like to wish you well for Saturday- I've never seen it as a pre-requisite of being a Bluenose that I have to hate Villa and TBH the last thing Birmingham needs is no premiership football. Nevertheless, if you did go down, its not the end of the world- I've enjoyed the away trips to the likes of Donny and Ipswich every bit as much as those Stoke or Spurs. The only thing I've missed is the derby matches - can't say I've missed the perennial struggle to stay up that is the typical Blues season (and will be Villa's too, if the services of the world's 20th highest paid manager are retained next year).

Cheers Den. Some will applaud MON, many will scream all sorts of nonsense at him (the sports witness sheep for example). I'll sit on the fence w.r.t. MON, good and bad came with his tenure. If we go down, we'll definitely get rid of AM. Or would we?! The nightmare is we go down and RL doesn't have the dosh or nouse to sack him, and we stay there for many a year. It's happened to other biggish clubs, e.g. Boro. Lerner doesn't understand footy I'm afraid.
As for spurs, they're destined for 6th I'm afraid. Let's hope the FA appoint Hodgson, and spurs keep arry. Drinks all round!

I'd settle for a draw (no I'm not a sudden AM enthusiast) because a loss may affect how the team tackle Bolton and Norwich. A win would be great (take that MON!). A "fighting loss" may not affect the spirit too much.
