Di Matteo's Tactics...

Everyone's been praising his tactics during the Barca match, and rightly so.
Excluding Drogba, Chelsea were brilliant defensively however, I'd like to express my opinion as to why it worked so well.

Put basically, Chelsea were 100% defence when Barca were in possession. I mean, there's parking the bus, and there's that!

Usually, when teams play against Barca (and I watch every game) they defend in 2 lines; with the defence around 30m and midfield around 45m.
Chelsea's formation was similar at the beginning of the match, hence Sanchez and Fabregas being able to run in behind.
However, around 20 mins in these defensive lines retreated to close the space in behind, additionally they compressed so as the gap between them was around 5-10m - completely nullifying Messi's ability to play between the lines.

So fair play to the coaching staff for catching on to a potential problem so quickly.
It's a testament to Barca that they still should've scored at least twice (the open goals)

For the record, I don't like Chelsea, but respect everyone who played that night, except Drogba...

C'mon Barca!

Mikel was also our most advanced midfielders at time in order to stop Xavi. Also a smart move by the coaching team

surely the fact barca missed 3 sitters would suggest the tactics weren't 100percent right.
