After a very disapointing season, its clear what needs to be done to strenghten the Forest squad to have us competing at the right end of the table.
Wether Cotterill is the right man for the job is another matter, I personally think he should be given a chance, and I was not saying that 3 months ago. But thats for another debate.
The defence is a must to be sorted in the summer, because once that got sorted this season we have looked a much better team and in the word of SC "more balanced". Once that was sorted it is clear that we need a 20 goal a season striker as we are dominating games but not scoring, what difference would Earnie have made this season?
A lot of work is required and this could be one of the most busy and productive pre-season for years and this time we must get it right! Hopefully some news will come with regards to the takeover very soon and then who ever is in charge can get to work.

This has been an excruciating experience.
Week after week of scorning chances, dominating, veering from good football to hoofball.
Without serious change the signs are ominous.
The need for a proven goalscorer is top of the list.
Whether SC is the man for the job is doubtful. He has had a chance. It has been poor. Survival has been assured due to the ineptness of Doncaster and Coventry, alongside the points deduction for Pompey. Without this we would be going into the last game with little to suggest survival (based on our absurd home form).
This season has to be ranked as one of the worst I can remember.

hoofball?
Not many games where I've seen it. Derby away was the last time I think.
It has been a poor season though.

Really not sure SC should lead us into next season. Good loans or not, we have been too reliant on other factors.
Truthfully the decline started midway through last season, when our form was almost relegation material. However, we have truly plumbed new depths.

I don't suppose we can do anything until we have a new owner though.

No doubt that helped but we did build up a 7 points buffer to heap the pressure on them so that their last few games were must win games.

do you realise that only two strikers in the championship have scored 20 goals this season? and earnie hasn't scored 20 in a season in years.
i agree the defence needs rebuilding but we don't create many quality chances, thats a huge factor in our strikers not scoring enough. we need far better wide play and midfielders who will regularly get into the box and make problems for defenders. once you get some attackers in there the strikers will get more space and more knockdowns and loose balls. with that will come more chances and more goals.
or we could go out and spend any money we have on a striker and then watch that investment become a complete waste because we never get him a clear sight of goal

Creating chances isn't the problem. The problem is that too many of those have gone wide or tamely to the keeper. We need someone who can actually hit the target with quality strikes. Had we had someone of that calibre we may have got more from all those single goal defeats. 16 so far this season.

not creating good chances is the problem stan lee.
we take far too many shots from outside the box and create very little where the forward would be favourite to score.
90% of our attempts on goal are little more than being one for the stats as opposed to genuine goalscoring opportunities.

Fair comment E_B. There has also been MOM performances from opposition keepers in a few games lately. Mind you, that is their job to keep shots out of the net..
