I am trying to work out if this is good News or a disaster for England.
Onions is bowling from the Nursery End and the Pavilion End ( not at the same time luckily for Middlesex) and he is knocking over batsmen as easily as you like.
I should be ecstatic about this? Another great bowler just strengthening our already superb bowling outfit, equalled by nobody on the planet at this time?
Well I am not. One of those batsmen he has removed with ease is the captain of our National Team and he has done it TWICE.
Firstly he removed his stumps second ball for a duck, and then allowed him to make six measly runs before finding his edge ( taken ) with a beauty.
What do we think about the loss of form of Andy Strauss and do we have anybody ready to step into his shoes at this important time in our history?
I know he will play in the next series, but who are we grooming to fill his boots in the future?
Onions really do make you cry.

As long as we keep winning I would say Strauss's place is safe. Unfortunately we've not been. Another series and still failure, with bat and captaincy, ie losing then things have to be looked at.
Great guy and has the respect of the team, but sometimes that's not enough. Question is who replaces him with the bat? Sure the captaincy would go to Cook, and deservedly so.

Re: Comments from Maksi
JT, you don't think Onions could step into our bowling line up at a moments notice, and not weaken our attack one iota?
==========================================
He could come into the attack and def do a job, but is not the same level of the current bowlers in the England XI. So yes, it would weaken the attack slightly.
RE: Maksi Comments:
I think Onions would get in the first team of every other test playing nation on the planet right now
==========================================
Whilst this MAY be true, that says more about the seam options of current test playing nations than Onions himself.
RE: Maksi Comments:
Yepp, he is great, and his biggest problem will be that he is competing with many
=========================================
No, he is NOT great, take out his first two tests against WI and he averages 37 with the ball in tests and 46 in ODIs.
Demba and Maksi, I like Onions, I agree he is destructive on his day and I think he provides very good cover in case there's an injury to the main England seamers, but he just isn't great yet. That's my only point.

I think it just proves that England are in good condition on the bowling front, with plenty of guys ready to step up should the need arise, with minimal drops in quality (if any).

What about Varun Chopra?
As an Indian I would be happy to see the Indians doing well in every corner of the world.

How are we doing on the batting front when we lose Andy Strauss?
Fair play to you JT, the word "great" was probably the wrong word to use and agree with the rest of your comments, as usual

I'm thinking maybe a youngster like Bell-Drummond, not a great first-class average yet, but doing very well for the Under-19 team and may be ready to step in after the next Ashes series which seems a likely retirement date for Strauss and probably Ponting as well.

In this April weather with seam bowlers having a ball in these conditions, few top order batsmen are doing well. Most of the big scores are being made by middle order players when the shine has gone off the ball.
