Phil Babb...The Elusive 19th League Goal

"I'd waited 8 years for this moment. I said it in the dressing room after the game. 8 years. And it felt good. Myself, Dom (Matteo) and Mark (Wright) were part of a back three. Neil (Ruddock) and John (Scales) were often involved but along with Mark we were always guarenteed a game. It was the way it worked. 2 up 1 back, 3 down leave 2 standing, 3 for 2, 1 by 4, triple it up, roll and bundle, switch 3 on 1 to 4 on 0 and propel a 5-3-2 rollover. It happened on repeat just like that but in reverse. It carried on like that.

Now when I first started out I played up-front. Nobody even believes it. But when I told them I'd scored 18 league goals - to Rob on the official Liverpool Video - I remember fans suddenly turned on me. They were almost horrified. I'd been at the club for over 2 years and I had been unable to expand on my 18 league goals. It was a torrid time to be fair. I suddenly had this awful weight on my shoulder. But during my return to Highfield Road things were all about to change...my life would never be the same..."

Phil Babb, legendary RoE centre-back, who played for Liverpool from 1994 - 1999, recounts niche goalscoring memories in his upcoming autiobiography "Sent to Coventry (19 Close-range Netbusters)".
