Best v Messi

Messi has now missed 25% of the penalties he has taken for Barcelona. Best scored ALL the penalties he took for Man Utd and N. Ireland. Best did it with a ball weighing about twice as much which could not be spun or bent so easily. Best usually performed the feat in often atrociously wet, muddy UK conditions.

I never remember Best having an "annoymous" match even when his team lost. Ive seen Messi having several.

Maradona good, Pele better, George Best, Messi messier when it comes to penalties.

how?
best was good at dribbling, buthe would get nowhere near the runs he did back then. Also the ball being heavier is probably easier to maneuver than the lighter balls today which probably roll off a lot more

modern era >>>>> best

Do u think we'll see Messi turning out for Cork City in a few years? Or even Hibs or Fulham

Btw missing a peno doesn't make u a bad player or less of a players

Then surely if there was a modern day Best , with the proper fitness, diet etc , he would have no problem skinning players of today. He had it all - dribble, finish , headers , free kicks , tackle. The guy was amazing.

Pele/Best , Maradona , Messi , Fat Ronaldo and my underated favourite , M.Laudrup :D

Robert TheTarheel, i second what Alex says, and add into the mix that Best had seven bells knocked out of him as he made those runs/ dribbling runs, without screaming at the refs. .He also had in abundance what is sadly lacking in Messi n his contemporaries,, a healthy dose of humility. which extended beyond " like", 2 seasons ,," like".Mr . Best was, and is, without peer.

ROBERT:
Most players would say that the lighter ball, once you get used to it, gives the advantage much more to the kicker than the goalie. Something to do with physics, I gather. It interesting that, after an initial wave of complaints from all sides, that it is only really goalies who continue to be vociferous in their criticism of the new ball. It seems than strikers have found ways of making it work to their own advantage. When you look at some of the video compilations of "Impossible Goals" the flight of the ball in some cases seems to actually defy gravity, That guy from Man City even seems capable of making the ball do double swerves!
