Shearer and Cantona were two completely different types of player but both at the pinnacle of their style of play. Shearer was the archetypal old-fashioned striker, Cantona was the craftsman. Shearer, along with Sutton transformed Blackburn into the top team, Cantona was the catalyst that woke and inspired the sleeping giant that was Manchester Utd, bringing them out of the football wilderness after 20-odd years of mediocrity.
