Evening all.
Well it looks like we have a great chance to be safe now thanks to a good performance against Sunderland and some good results elsewhere at the weekend. Lots of posters have been saying 'if we win against Spurs' and 'we only need 4 points'.
Whilst it is good to see so many positive posts now, it is still important to keep things relative. A loss against Spurs could put the pressure right back on us, even though nobody else around us will have played.
Spurs are currently in a champions league position. I know they struggle at the Reebok, but lets be honest, a win is a very tough ask for us.
The worst case scenario is that we lose on Wednesday. Meaning we stay 18th and lose a few goals in goal difference. Pressure is back on on Saturday again vs West Brom. I think we are more likely to pick up our 4 points from West Brom and Stoke than Spurs. We are better away than at home at the moment.
I do not regard this Spurs game as a 'must win'. I would be more inclined to say it's a 'must not lose'. I feel we have enough against West Brom and Stoke to stay up this season. I just don't feel that we should be thinking that we can beat Spurs. Hopefully, even if we did lose, us fans will stay be positive that we can stay up with our remaining fixtures.

I think we can afford to lose against Spurs.
I disagree with TRR insofar as I am certain 4 more points will see us safe.
I was certain QPR would get nothing at Chelsea and I am certain they will get nothing at Manchester City. They are absolutely abysmal away from home.
They may even lose at home to Stoke, as a rebound from the hammering they took yesterday, though we can't rely on that.
We are absolutely capable of getting the 4 points from West Brom and Stoke, so as I say, losing at home to Spurs would not be terminal, just disappointing.

4 points dfrom the next 3 games is not beyond us at all. I actually fancy a result against spurs as we have a good record against them at the bok ...If the pieeaters can do it so can we

You Know I'm positive and a Coyle supporter. I think we can stay up but to as how many points we will need, I'm not sure.
Four points may do it but it could be more. Only time will tell but I hope it's only four.

I don't want to be in the bottom 3 in April.
In terms of dispassionate analysis, I am getting the "I think we can afford to lose against Spurs" line in now, to counter the mass hysteria which will follow on this forum if we do lose against Spurs.
It's the most difficult of our remaining 3 fixtures, I believe we only need 4 points, and this is my rationale.

I don't think the point versus Spurs will be vital to our survival, but us losing to them will give QPR renewed hope going into their home game.
Therefore, a point is most valuable for the fact it will drop QPR into the bottom 3, and they'll no that they'll have to get atleast a point, if not a win, and perhaps even this won't be enough to get them out of it before the final game.
I still believe tonights game, although at the complete other end, affects our chances slightly. A nice 1-0 for City and then a massive 5-0 win for United against Swansea, and the goal difference will be crucial - allowing City to go all guns blazing at QPR on the final day.

Welcome back rowbot, I knew you wold relent like I did
Good article, however EVERY game from now is a total must win, id rather not be worrying at stoke on the last day of the season, it will drive me mad!
Lets hope city win tonight too...for 2 reasons, I love to see the glory hunters lose and city play qpr on last day. Id love it if united and city became level on points and the title was going to be decided on GD ...then city have to go all out against qpr if we need it...

I think the "must not lose" comment is more accurate than must win. For me a draw would be a good result and a win a bonus. Even a defeat wouldn't be the worst so long as it is only by a goal or two. What we can't afford is to take a hammering.

We cannot afford to lose. A point absolute must and with our possible depleated team my head is all over the place. But I must stay positive! I think

A draw would be a massive result; it would see us a point above QPR, putting enormous pressure on them in their next game, knowing that if we then beat W Brom, they cannot catch us should they lose.... I still think we'll need 38 points to stay up ..but if wwe reach that before the Stoke game, we could well be mathematically safe by then ...providing we get at least a point off Spurs ...
