Speaking from an English point of view, I don't really mind, so long as we do what we're good at and we're good at what we do.

Right now we don't appear to have an identity as a footballing nation.

Why "aspire"? Why is the continental level (whatever that is) better than tactics in British football?

Too much emphasis on power and speed.Long cross balls and a knock down thereby missing out the middle.

The main difference between UK and continental types is 'patience' and an ability/want to hold onto the ball.

But you do realise the "continental style" is a myth, yes?

Are there no styles?

I mean there is not one continental style. The football Germany play is quite different to Spain's style; France is different to the Netherlands; Italy is different to Sweden; Poland is different to Greece; Scotland is different to england.

Personally I think this is a good thing; as much as I like watching Barcelona and Spain play, if every team played like them I'd get bored very quickly. Variety is interesting - uniformity is not.

I'm not sure why some styles are considered superior to others. If you can't see glimpses of beauty in long ball football and tika taka, in defensive football and in all out attack, in attacking through the middle and down the wings, in 442/451/343, then I suggest you're not looking hard enough.

If you look at Barcelona and most top european teams they do apply 'get in your face' tactics.

If they dont use a more continental tactic on the ball in pure possession play. Off the ball there is no team that works hard enough in getting the ball back than Barcelona or getting in the teams faces.

Its the mix that makes teams great, the determination of the players to get possession back, a will to win, with talent / intelligence that makes them great.
