Can't resist a freebie

Been looking at the PFA list again. Can't help wondering if (after the past few summers' signings) we might be looking at a bargain. Players of note still on the list:

Giles Barnes
Marcus Bent
Lee Bowyer
Michael Brown
Steve Caldwell
Sol Campbell (not sure his backside would fit through the door!)
Pascal Chimbonda
Tom Cruise (not sure his nose would fit through the door..)
Daniel De Ridder
Kieron Dyer
Pablo Counago
Tamir Cohen
Danny Coid
Jason Euell
Holmar Eyjolfsson
Danny Gabbidon
Anthony Gardner
Ricardo Gardner
Marlon Harewood
Richard Hughes
Steve Irwin (crikey!!!! Sorry - couldn't resist....)
Jason Koumas
Robert Kozluk
Shefki Kuqi
Malaury Martin
Abdoulaye Meite
David Nugent
Isaiah Osbourne
John Pantsil
Kevin Phillips
Robert Pires
Gavin Rae
Maceo Rigters
Danny Webber
Kelly Youga (for some reason I've always rated him when I've seen him)
Gianni Zuiverloon

Now, many of these may seem unrealistic, but I would not be surprised one bit if we had spoken to or looked at half a dozen or more of these players. I would be willing to stick a fiver on one of these being at the club next year, and not necessarily KP either....

On the whole though there is not much there better than what we have

Jeez, I've read some things, but to say that:

Marcus Bent
Daniel De Ridder
Pablo Counago
Jason Euell
Marlon Harewood
Shefki Kuqi
David Nugent
John Pantsil
Kevin Phillips
Robert Pires
Maceo Rigters

are no better than Lee Novak is quite unbelievable

FFS I think that Counago has played for Spain at every single possible level

Giles Barnes would be a fantastic signing.

Far too good to waste his talent on Lee Clarks coaching though

TTC, I think that which ever way you choose to cut it the 'released' players listed are not good enough, or more likely blinded by thier own hype of magnificance, else they would have found a club. If in the opinion of our leader players are not good enough he soon gets rid. Hence, by his comparison our current squad are better than those on the list, though as I said way above, there are some fine players amongst them, but those that we might be interested in would be mercenaries looking for a pay day, not players 'playing for the shirt'. As such are no better than the squad we currently have. Though as you note with different leadership there could be some 'useful' players on the list.

As for Novak, he may not be very good but if our so called 'better' players put the same sort of level of effort in, then Town would in be a far better position. At least he looks like he wants to play every time he gets on the park.

I want to play for town too....I really do....but I shouldn;t get picked becuase of that.... (it's becuase of my passion, cultured right foot and extreme athleticism.....I'm turning 34 in September though, so I only want a 12 month contract with an option to renew...I'll take £3k a week ...)

Grim

I now have a terrible picture of you in a Town shirt running around doing a new version of the Duracell Bunny, whilst yelling the answers to trivia questions.......

Somme, perm any four from that lot and swap them with our front four and we wouldn't have to rely on the midfield and defence to score the lions share of our goals

Aye to that, but do we have a front 4? Can't find any reliable source of statistics for any sort of striker at Town, there is one bloke who scored a few goals but I guess that was caused by the ball accidentally ricocheting off a static target during our ongoing Hoofball tactic..........................

For me, Michael Brown is a must, if still available. I was very impressed with him when he played for Portsmouth. He's thirty four, but I think he would do well for Town for a season or two. Just depends on his wages, he didn't play late last year because he was entiled to a new contract with increased wages, which Portsmouth could not afford, so he did not play another game.

Agreed Somme,

Jordan Rhodes scores his goals "by hook or by crook".

He has the knack of hardly moving around but still being in the right place at the right time to score his goals.

Amazing really when you look at some strikers that absolutely work their socks off for no reward and jeers from the crowd whilst Jordan Rhodes tosses it off and is a hero.
