Defending the defence

Pretty annoyed with all the anger toward the defence tonight tbh - this is a City team, playing at home where they have drawn 1 game and lost none, having scored 12 goals in their last 3 games (exc today), with a strike force of around £70million upfront.
Why the rage at Phil Jones? Yes he hasn't had a great first season, but when he joined the club, imagine the pressure he's under. He was likened to some of the English greats, and touted as future England skipper. He was asked to play across the back, and in midfield, never getting a settled run in the team. But on tonight: did he actually make a mistake? He wasn't great going forward, and his clearances went awry on a few occasions, but how many times was he genuinely caught out of position? For that matter, with the exception of the corner, when was our defence really struggling with City's attack. City dominated the first half, and most of the second yet barely had any clear chances, the goal coming from a corner.
Thought Evra actually did alright, Ferdinand was excellent, and Smalling lost focus for 10seconds unfortunately.

Anyway, congrats to City on a well deserved win! Hope you mess it up!

Jones wasnt bad defensively. His crossing was just awful, which is fair enough I guess, as he isnt a RB.

Bubbly - As for Scholes, he simply cant play for more than 65 mins. He played for about 85 against Everton, and they walked past our midfield to score two goals.

Zabaleta had a field day charging down our left, and its not even likes hes quick!

Although I have to say, that wasnt really Evra's fault, GIggs simply didnt have the legs to help out promptly enough.

I've seen a bit of hate going round at the defence, and just thought I'd stick up for them as I think they did pretty damn well.

As for Scholes, think Bloodred nailed it. Scholes simply can't play 90minutes, especially against a high tempo City team. And with no CMs on the bench, it becomes an issue.

I thought defensively United were fairly sound apart from the marking for City's goal. It was going forward that United were really poor. No cohesion with the passing, and not enough ambition to move the ball forward.

Fergie must have known Scholes cant play 90mins so why did he leave Cleverley out altogether?

Why have Berba, Hernandez AND Welbeck on the bench. What is going on!

wasn't Zabaleta on the right?

I thought United defended well tonight, Smalling lost his man at the corner apart.

Should the answer be we shouldn't rely on 38 and 37 year olds in our CM ???

I think it's time the club faced up to the task and replaced them.

Been putting if off for years and years

All transfers are down to one man, Fergie.

He has insisted time and time again that he hasnt found the right man but tbh, even a stop-gap CM siginign wouldve been suffice.
