Right Midfield

When was the last time Arsenal had a truely great Rid Midfielder. I was thinking back last night to all our great teams. Even in the last 20 years you could put together a 4-4-2 of world class players in every position but i couldn't think of a player who you would class as a proper Right Mid/Winger

Lungberg?

Pires was left sided and so was Overmars but all magnificent players and definitely world class.

Ljungberg and pires were both world class players but neither's true position was Right Mid. Thats what I'm saying. It's like when Wiltord played on the right. Amazing as he was it wasn't his natural position.

Ljungberg was a big, big part of our success. His goal scoring run in 2002 won us the league that year, his Cup final goals prove he was a big game player.
His understanding with Bergkamp was amazing, the way they linked up was too much for even the best of defences.

Whether he was world class depends on your definition of world class, but he was a great Premiership right midfielder.

One thing I would say that slighty backs up the arguement is that Arsene Wenger seems to prefer a harder working player on the right, and the more skillful, flamboyant player on the left. Parlour-Overmars, Ljungberg-Pires. Not sure if Walcott-Arshavin really fits, especially as Nasri often plays on both wings throughout the season.
Could be a plus point for the industrious Henri Lansbury...

Would you not class Lansbury as a central midfield player?

Probably his favourite position, but he is behind the likes of Wilshere and Ramsey, and like Ray Parlour, he could do a good job on the right. Henri is comfortable on the right and would offer an alternative to the pace of Walcott/Gervinho.

This is what I'm saying everyone is "comftable on the right". Not an actual Right Midfielder. Can people stop sayinf Freddie. Freddie was amazing for us. One of the best in one of our best squads but his natural position was not right midfield. I was just wandering when was the last time we had someone who's natural position was. This was in no way at all an Arsenal.

I would say Ljungbergs natural position WAS right midfield. He was perfect at it, so how can you say it was not his natural position.
He may have prefered to play more centrally, he may not have been an out and out winger, but he was a natural right midfielder, proved because he was so good playing there.

Sometimes a player himself does not know what his natural position is/was, and it takes a great manager to see where a player is at his best.
